Watch out for the charlatans that run WomenCertified.com (a division of Medelia, Inc)!!! I am a former executive of the company and witnessed it from the inside out. When I challenged the couple that owns the business, they ran me out!
I was forewarned by many people, but similar to those before me, I was approached by them during a vulnerable time in my career and I was made many "fantastic" promises. Not only did they use me, while pirating my intellectual property, and spit me out (without warning or cause), but they proceeded to deprive me and my family of 5 the monies promised (both salary and commissions) during our hour of greatest need. I should not have been surprised that a multi-million dollar firm (over 9 years old) had not even 1 salesperson working for the company when I came on board. They have a track record of using people and "kicking them to the curb" - just ask the women who conceptualized and designed their online training methodology!
Be cautious of investing into this Ponzi scheme! They used my business plan and experience to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars of investors monies (even putting me on the phone with investors), only to turn around and reallocate the funds for personal and other unintended use. When I spoke up about it, they demoted me! There have been many investors before I came along, yet little to show but an overworked skeleton staff (3 people when I came on board) and hundreds of disappointed customers. New investment dollars are repeatedly sought after, to help fund the past failures and promises to prior investors.
They discriminate against males. Every male I brought on board was either fired by Delia or I was told to fire. When I was directed to terminate my top sales rep, Kyle, and refused, she demoted me again. She said, "This product needs to be sold by women and a woman needs to be running the sales force. Men should only be in supporting roles." When I told her that it was not only discriminatory, but a violation of their sales agreement, she terminated me within days.
The husband of founder, Delia Passi, is a bully and a cheat! Greg Smalter abuses employees verbally and has been caught several times trying to short change salespeople of what they are owed. Over 50% of the accounts sold were mismanaged financially by Greg (whose full time job is CFO), resulting in untimely payments, incorrect charges and more. Then, when he fails to charge the client according to the paperwork signed by the client, he penalized the salesperson, denying them commissions. It happened to my sales reps and it happened to me as well!
Be cautious of their promises. Most of what they promise is based on smoke and mirrors. Whether a prospective client, salesperson or investor, you are putting yourself at risk when you attach yourselves to these folks.
- Don't pay $.06-.08 per email that they mark up 3-4x as a reseller (you can get much cheaper directly from the supplier)
- Don't risk your familys financial future with a 9 year old company that has not sales employee over 6 months in tenure (they will find a way of avoiding their obligations to you, like they have to me and so many others)
- Don't invest your dollars with charlatans (they will misappropriate your funds, for unintended "pet projects" and personal use)
I never met one single client that saw ANY return on investment (and we spoke to hundreds of them). The training is a "nicety" and a "luxury" with little real value, while most of the support they promise is non-existent (such as mystery shops). When a company has no references that can verify ROI, when your "model clients" repeatedly cancel your meetings and leave you for your compititors, when you don't have one successful salesperson with more than 3-6 months tenure - there is something very wrong!
As a former executive with intimate knowledge of the inner workings of WomenCertified, I can only do my part to forewarn others based on my own personal experience. I am not the only one (as I have heard from several others personally), but they will have to tell their own story. My bible teaches me that one reaps what they sow. A time of reckoning is past due for these folks.
Feel free to email me for more information.

#6 REBUTTAL Owner of company
I am not an imposter... but ex employee
AUTHOR: The Whistle Blower - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, May 02, 2010
I had to repond to this horrible rip off rip off report. I worked for D Pearlman at Women Certified. First and foremost Delia Passe is an angelic presense in our community... her message and teaching are clear... she offers training to all size businesses of all industries to thier sales force, so they can learn the excellent customer service and sales technique that she spent years researching and perfecting. I like to think she is trying to make this world a nicer place to live and work and do business. She was the nicest, fairest person I have ever had an opportunity to work with... she taught me A LOT. She is a marketing guru.
As for my tenure with D Pearlman... well he is a horrible person to work for... when they did the unorganized hiring I was one of the recruits... I am a seasoned telemarketer and own my own brokerage... from there the situation just gets worse... First he had hired this guy George to do this mass interview and hiring. It was nothing that I had ever seen before... George talks about love... anyway... I got the job and was immediately pinned against my coworker who was hired to be my team leader and I was told by Dan I was not allowed to talk to HIM... He just hired me and there were only 2 girls in a small office, setting appointments for Dan and another woman... 2nd day on the job George who did not work for WC came into the office and started with this nonproductive who is who of Women Certifed. He embarrassed me and told me not talk to the female rep stating she was "friends of the family and would tell on me". I was offended...Also I was not to talk about myself because these were extremely rich and well off people and well quite frankly he said I made $10 an hour and I am not well off and I just wasn't... Dan and He BOTH discussed dressed and then they proceeded to eye me up and down and comment on my clothing... what a horrible and uncomfortable interview... and a bad start to a new opportunity. Things only got worse... there was another rep there and we (the appointment setters) were not allowed to talk to her... all every body did was sneak around him talking about him behind his back... he set up this horrible sales situation where people were intimidated to achieve thier creativity and effectively sell Delia's Brand. It was like cancer in a sales office... the worse case sales senerio ever... all the appointments were taken directly to his wife who spoke little english and had no organizational skills what so ever... my second week also started out with a doozey... Dan caught me in the break room... I was making coffee and talking to the girls... he starts yelling at me so bad I over flowed the coffee pot and spilled water all over the floor... I was never so humilated and embarrassed before in all my life... He kept saying that my spread sheets where not what he wanted and I was like well what do you want??? He said he wanted the columns rearranged... I said but all the information is right there... first we had to write it on the board and then he didn't want the reps to see the board, so sneakily made his wife take over the scheduling for him and this guy Kyle... Kyle is another story all together... this guy would go out on an appointment... talk to the owner and be totally incompetitent and then come back and lie and say it wasn't a qualified appointment... but he got paid on it but I the appointment setter did not... I only had to ask Kyle good morning and how he was doing to realize that I never wanted to talk to him again... he responded with something like I don't know what your talking about... I couldn't stand it... so I quit... I told on all the crap that I had to put up with and I told Dan I did not have low selfesteem and I didn't have to put up with his crap..OH and did I mention his wife ask me to attend church on Sunday in her living room... I declined and told her I prefer to go to church AT A CHURCH! And I quit... All in all I loved working for Delia and her office is gorgeous... but Dan made my life miserable...
I have but one word for the Daniel Pearlman's debauchery... LIAR!!!
He is incompetitent, bias, nepotism, unorganized, judgemental, humiliating, creep! And trust me I know Delia's whole family and I know this upset them to the 10th degree and I know that court proceedings have been considered... and I am here for you Delia... I will testify for your character, but trust me... he ain't worth it... get over it and move on... get a new job... like me:)
and be happy once again... and forever:)

Greg, Greg, Greg..
Since you took the time to respond (as opposed to sending me my past-due pay), I will speak to a few of the things you wrote:
1) I never asked for work. When I was working for CityTwist, my sales rep Larry Hinton asked me to help him gain an audience with Delia to pitch her on being a reseller of CityTwist email - which i did. When I suggested to Delia that she add digital marketing to her product portfolio, she quickly proposed I come to work for her to build the solution and then to build the sales force to sell it. She invited me and my wife to dinner with her, you and one of your investors that very weekend. Not only was Larry a witness to her recruiting efforts, but the CEO of CityTwist overheard it as well and asked me to leave if I was considering the offer. You wasted no time extending verbal offers to me (with "fantastic" promises, which neither came in writing, nor were they honored) to come work for you and to engage CityTwist as your email supplier, which I did. I was out of work for less than 24 hours. Shame on me for trusting you to honor your word.
2) As far as promises go, I only promised to put forward my best efforts - if you secured $250,000 to fund the business plan you asked me to prepare which I did at a rate of nearly 100 hours per week. HOWEVER, you told the investors that their $250,000 would fund our 12 month plan to build a product and a sales team. After only 3 months and $60,000 (which I can document), you informed me that the money was gone. You asked me to terminate all salespeople (including one that was scheduled to start the following week and already quit her job) and you cut my salary by 50%. What was my response? I put in even more hours and started doing the one thing I told you I was unwilling to do when you hired me to build a commission based sales force. When I asked what happened to the money, you got very upset, telling me that you had other expenses that were not part of the business plan (which the investors thought they were investing into) and that it was none of my business how the money is spent.
3) When you tried to cut my pay for the 2nd time in less than 60 days and asked me to take over operations as well, we then reached a deadlock. If refusing to take on more work for less pay is worthy of being fired, then I guess I deserved what I got! You failed to honor any of your former agreements with me, so I demanded certain things in writing, which you refused. Since then, you have continued to withhold earned income, confirming my doubts.
4) As far as legal action, keep your eyes on your mailbox. That process is underway already. It is sad that a struggling family has to borrow money in order to sue a former employer to get what was already earned. This is yet one more of your bully tactics.
Believe it or not, I wish you all no harm. Although I struggle spiritually to forgive you, I trust that God will help me to love and pray for you. In the meantime, others should be warned before they make the same mistakes I made in trusting you to keep your word and do what is right. Or perhaps you will decide to change your ways and correct the wrongs that have been done. It is still not too late.
(As far as the "former employee" that keep throwing in their two cents - since it is obvious to everyone that this "former employee" has way too much interest in someone else's business and is hellbent in impugning a 3rd party's reputation, I feel no need to address her silly comments directly..)

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Daniel Pearlman - a vindictive and deperate man.

Daniel,
Once again, you and I both know the invalidity of your statements. Data and numbers do not lie so just the statement of your increase in profit is a lie and any future employer should be inclined to call the company, through which they will gladly, I'm sure, provide them with the information necessary.
Daniel, you have not only screwed up your life because of your horrible reputation, to say the least, at your former job, but now your life is going to be that much more difficult because of your vindictive nature that is apparent through your accusations and postings. As I said before, any future employer of yours will need all the luck they can get...for various reasons.
It is interesting that you say only a lawyer would use the term 'libel', when in fact any person who thought rationally before making these destructive and false accusations would have taken a moment to think about this concept and realize the consequences of their actions. Clearly you have not, and your desperate rebuttal to my statements will be addressed on a factual level should this be brought to court. And speaking of the daughter of the CEO and the integrity of the company, I would not be surprised if you heard from her.

Former employee or daughter?? LOL
AUTHOR: dpearlman - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, April 21, 2010
This rebuttal might carry more weight if you weren't the daughter of the owner! (And an attorney at that - who else uses "libel" in their "every day" dialogue?)
I probably should not invest the time to write this, but there are several errors in your response:
- My wife, Deserie, was interviewed and hired by Delia, not "hand selected by me". I merely suggested that the interview happen. Neither was she my assistant. Delia made the decision to hire her and help with the fulfillment of the new product line. Any responsibility she was given was at the sole discretion of the owners (your mother and step-father). If she was not qualified, that is a reflection on those that interviewed and hired her. (By the way, several customers have called us to complain about her departure!) She resigned after she saw them fail to honor their agreements and treat me like a criminal, escorting me out under close supervision after I logged in nearly 100 hours per week for 6 months without a contract.
- I was never asked to "clean up my act." Revenue doubled from month-to-month-to-month after launching my new product line January 1st. Delia then said that her operations were a mess (not my responsibility) and asked me to clean it up. She offered me more responsibility for less pay! I declined. This occurred after she told me that "the sales organization should be run by a woman and the salesforce should be female - but men can provide support to the women."
- Not one person under my leadership has a single complaint about me. I Know this from 1st hand conversations and challenge you to prove otherwise! That is libel. My information is 1st hand. You are a "former employee" - LOL
I find it interesting how an "ex-employee" has such intimate knowledge of my experience there, of how people thought of me and the details of my departure. I would suggest that you leave comments to your 1st hand experience (which does not include me or my wife). Perhaps we should ask Patty, Maria and some of the others to provide their personal experiences? And maybe you can find some former salespeople that WERE successful there that either (1) are still there or (2) have positive things to say about the company and their experience. That would make a more interesting rebuttal.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds
WomenCertified is a phenomenal company and has been referred to many individuals and companies I have come in contact with. I have yet to hear any negative remarks...
AUTHOR: Former WomenCertified Employee - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, April 21, 2010
As a former employee of WomenCertified and Medelia Communications I would like to take this time to express my extreme disappointment with the false accusations and libel that was written in the initial statement concerning this company, their practices, and their values. I worked on and off with them as a part time employee for several years and came to know and love all of the executives as well as employees who worked alongside them. Delia Passi, the CEO of this company is a phenomenal individual both professionally as well as personally. These facts can be supported by anyone who has worked there or with them-except for of course, Daniel Pearlman who interestingly enough was given multiple chances to "clean up his act" before he was asked to leave...
As this company has been like a second family to me, I have stayed in very close contact with most of the employees and have heard terrible stories about this man. When asking about the company, almost everyone openly admitted to their extreme dislike working with him. He was extremely arrogant, rude, and as we can all see, vindictive and ruthless. His demeanor was nontheless displayed in the work setting.
It is interesting that he points out how he was "run out". He fails to mention that this "horrible company and it's terrible executives" allowed him to hand select his wife to be his assistant and work alongside him on sales and marketing campaigns. This is despite the fact that she was unqualified for the job. This can be proven in bills that were paid to both of them. When he had crossed the line one too many times and was asked to leave, both him and his wife walked out, never to be seen again- only heard.
And being from a family of lawyers, I would also like to point out that these stories and accusations that we both know to be false, are considered libel and I would not be surprised to see you in court. I wish any of your future employers the best of luck, as they will most sincerely need it.

Not an accurate portrayal
AUTHOR: Greg Smalter - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, April 21, 2010
This report by Daniel Pearlman is an attempt to extract some retribution after being terminated.
I could take issue with many things written by Mr. Pearlman, but will keep it brief. Daniel approached us, not the other way around, with an offer to help us market our services, using a means that is not his intellectual property, as he learned about us when we spoke with his prior employer. He made many grand promises as to the business he would generate. It did not come true.
In negotiating an employment contract he demanded a large equity position in the company, despite failing to deliver on his promises. Negotiations reached a deadlock and we asked him to leave. He was paid all the salary and commissions he was due.
Mr. Pearlman's comments are inaccurate, damaging and libelous. If he had any valid claim against our company, he would take legal action, not write lies on the internet.
