My wife and I were shopping online for a warranty on our 2003 Ford Escape. So naturally we Googled Car Warranty. At the top of the page was www.CarBuyingTips.com so clicked through. It appears to be a Consumer Advocate page but as we know now it`s a front for Warranty Direct, who is also www.autowarranties.com, www.carwarranty.com , www.extendedwarranty.com , www.warrantydirect.com , and many others.  I also take issue with Google on this and have emailed there corporate office about allowing the same company to occupy the top 3 positions in every auto warranty related search. What kind of choice is this. Its the same product wrapped in a different package.

So long story short, on the word of Car Buying Tips , who we thought was legitimate Consumer advocate website, we purchased a warranty off Warranty Direct. We now know that Warranty Direct only sells 1 policy, Interstate. Thats it. We called other Brokers who had much better coverage, more options, and also sold Interstate but every other broker said Interstate is a mediocre policy. We called Warranty Direct back to get our money. 3 days after we gave them $3600.00. The agent we purchased it from will not call us back. We called their customer service and after waiting on hold for 20 min`s we were told we cannot cancel. We have to wait until we get our policy in the mail and then get a notarized letter stating we want to cancel, mail it in and wait 4-6 weeks for a refund.

We called our Credit Card Company who called Warranty Direct. Warranty Direct told them they will not refund our money. And since we "authorized the payment, we have to follow procedure". What a SCAM. I now know through the 25 ripoff reports that Warranty Direct has that they are a fraud. Its amazing that the BBB gives them and A+ even thought they have over 130 complaints this year. I let my gaurd down because I thought Car Buying Tips was a real consumer advocate website.

www.carbuyingtips.com and www.warrantydirect and Google and BBB are all players in this rouge. Smokescreens and magic.   I`ve contacted my Attorney General about this and the tip staff said they are pursuing this suto-consumer advocate wanna-be warranty direct cronie. Will see.  I am so sick to my stomach over this. Over 3k down the drain. I cannot afford this.

Stephane's complaint against us has lies and is slanderous, and his story does not hold water

AUTHOR: Jeff - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, January 07, 2013

First of all Stephane never contacted us with any issues,
why come right here instead of contacting us?
He contacted the folks at WarrantyDirect, why not us?  First hole in his story.

Most people with any problem about any auto-related company come to us with questions and concerns, they don't just show up on Ripoff-Report and file a complaint.  That's not a consumer eager to resolve a problem, that's creating more problems. We often happily work out issues between them and the company they are dealing with or give them advice on what to do to resolve their issues.  All free of charge of course.

In his complaint Stephane says we are a "front for Warranty Direct".  That is incorrect, and Stephane knows it and is slandering us by stating this.  He clearly omitted the part about we recommend 2 other warranty companies on our site also:  NationWarranty and Carchex.  Did you forget that part Stephane, or did you leave it out to support you story?

Stpehane complained that every broker he spoke to said WarrantyDirect was a mediocre product.  Well of course every commissioned salesperson is going to say that about their competition it's a cut throat business high on commission
fever.  So Stephane probably saw inferior product at a lower price and decided he wanted out of Warranty Direct.

He also complains that Warranty Direct sells only their product. That is what we recommend! Its the best case scenario, you deal with the company who sells and administers their own warranty.  That's a good thing not a bad thing!  Also one of the other 2 warranty companies that we recommend in our warranty chapter, Carchex, is a broker, so why didn't Stephane
try this broker?  He would have gotten what he wanted, they represent lots of warranties.  So his complaints against Warranty Direct are invalid, and his complaint against us is invalid.  He simply did not pay attention.

Now let's look at holes in Stephane's story:

He says " I am so sick to my stomach over this. Over 3k down the drain. I cannot afford this. ".  You are not out $3k, you bought a high quality warranty, you got what you paid for, it's a darn good warranty, so enjoy it.   Also, if you cannot
afford this, why did you get on the phone and give your credit card number to buy a warranty for $3500?

Second, he gave them his credit card number, and agreed to a contract, so why would he back out? Just because he kept shopping and found a cheaper warranty?  Thats backwards. Where I come from, a deal is a deal, unless there is fraud.  You buy you keep.

Third why would he keep shopping after making the purchase? You bought the warranty, be done with it already.  When I buy a steak at Costco, I don't go to WalMart after I get home to see how much it was over there.  I do all my shopping before I buy. So hes pointing fingers at everyone but himself because he does not know how to shop and is easily duped
by lying salespeople.

The only thing he had correct in his story is that yes it is a pain getting refunds back from insurers, and warranties, utilities, and just about anything else, because they have to wait until the dust settles and insurance policies have to get cancelled, etc.

Also, because of the nature of this business and customers like Stephan who complain for no reason, this is why companies have BBB complaints against them.  But even BBB tells you this industry gets a lot of complaints, and the number of complaints compared to the number of sales of warranties is quite low.

Oh, one more lie Stephane told, there is no investigation of the attorney general into us, simply because we did nothing wrong.  I doubt the folks at Warranty Direct did anything wrong. We were never contacted by the AG.  I doubt this Ripoff Report is even valid because it has so many holes in it.

If anyone has any issues at all they are always free to contact us directly at our web site.  But I don't see anything wrong that happened, other than a bitter person complained because some slanderous sales sharks lied to him that WD was a "mediocre product.  Listen, ignore all salespeople, and compare the PDF file of the coverage any warranty company against any other
company.  That's how you determine the superior product.  One more thing Stephane, if you want to ignore the links we have to warranty companies, you'll still find our advice is the best out there.

This is a fake report posted to Warranty Direct as well. There's not customer Guzman in the database. This one uses the name Stephane Guzman, the other uses "Justine Guzman".
