I was ripped off as well. Just called my 24 hour bank line and found out that a charge of $139.00 and change was deducted from my account!! I am horrified that someone could have gotten my checking account information. I do not shop online using my account information nor have I received anything in the mail stating if I did not respond my account would be charged(as I have read others had happen)

My question to the public is this: About a month ago I had 2 college students come by my apartment and ask for me to buy/renew subscriptions to magazines that I have, it would help them win a trip somewhere. I did pay with check to them AND the company was Palmetto Marketing Inc. The Interbill scam can come from a marketing partner, could this be one of them? Did anyone else pay for anything from someone at their door by check recently?

Maybe this could be the problem, I don't know. What I do know is that if my bank does NOT rectify this situation immediately, I will go to the media and to my lawyers about it. We cannot stand for something like this. This is a horrible violation of privacy and must BE STOPPED!!

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back!

HERE IS WHAT RIP-OFF REPORT SUGGESTS YOU DO:

Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish you file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E.

According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it has been more than 60 days.

If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist you properly at the 800 # , and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to deal with it, take the loss and reverse the charges.

Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.com. And if you're at the bank, walk them over to their computer and make them go to this site! If you are on the phone with them, tell them you will wait while they access this site! Either way, be persistent!

DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!

Let them know nicely, that you were advised to Report them (the Bank) and this situation to the Banking Commission in your state. Since each state has a different name for the agency/comptroller over banks, find that name before you call or get to the bank so you can throw it in their face. The more knowledgeable you appear to be, the further you will get.

And just continue to demand the Federal Regulation E form! The bank CAN, MUST and WILL reverse the charge! But, you must be persistent; ask to speak to the supervisor or the area manager for all the branches in the state.

Let the bank personnel know you are meeting with the media later in the day, that you would much rather they do the right thing (as most other banks have) by looking at the complaints and immediately reversing the charge(s) to your account; no matter how long ago it was. Be sure to call the Media if necessary so you are telling the truth.

If you have to, be loud (but nice) in front of other customers. If you are just calling by phone, the above tactics should still work. The bank can easily fax or mail to you the Federal Regulation E dispute form.

CHARGES TO YOUR CREDIT CARD

If the charge was to your credit card (not debit card, check card, or checking account), contact the credit card company as soon as possible to request a dispute form. Consumers usually have a little longer to dispute fraudulent credit card charges (up to 6 months), but it is better to act right away. In this type of situation, credit card disputes are usually successful since fraudulent companies often won't contest the disputed charge. In rare cases, credit card companies will review disputes, but refuse to reverse the charges. If this occurs, complain to a manager and let them know you will be filing a report here.

Remember Don't let them get away with it! Make sure they make the Rip-off Report .. The more Reports filed on a Company or individual, the more likely it is that the authorities, media and attorneys will want to take action.

And good luck Let us know how you do!

Hitting the nail on the head

AUTHOR: Kevin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 28, 2004

I am so glad I am not the only one who decided to look into this with a more multi-dimensional viewpoint. To date, I am still not 100% sure of how my checking account information was obtained, but knowing that there are others out there who take/took the initiative to look further, makes me feel pretty good in that these so-called "businesses" and individuals cannot run our lives. Identity theft and accessing personal information on any individual is serious and can not continue to live and breathe in our society. To take advantage of someone, no matter their income status, is not only immoral but illegal as well. Thank you everyone who commented on what I said. Keep it up folks, because ultimately "you" are the only ones who can fight to remain your own individuals!

On a more positive note, my bank took care of the problem immediately by having me sign an affidavit of unauthorized transactions where I state that without my consent or knowledge, a 2nd party had funds taken from my personal account. I spent about 15 minutes at the bank and I was pleased that by midnight that evening, my funds, along with my overdraft charge was credited back to my account.

Yes people, push your bank to listen to you. Show them this website if necessary. Worst case scenario?...threaten to go to your local news station about this and that you are receiving no help on it(although I strongly suggest this as a "last-resort") Your bank will listen. If they do not have internet access, print these comments off and get in their face. This is your money we are talking about, not some scam artist or business who took it from you!

Good Luck everyone...and god bless!

CCR says they represent "twenty-eight other company's"

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 27, 2004

Hello Kevin,
I've read your report and wy wife and I have speculated along the same line of thought. CCR says they represent "twenty-eight other company's" and we have concluded this was well thought out and must involve people who are familiar with inside banking regulations as well as the law re:such types of transactions. I would not be suprised at all if CCR was an active and/or knowing participant or perpetuated this ongoing criminal enterprise as they continue to refuse to reveal an active phone number or any real contact information for pharmacycards, CCR is also devoid of any apology or remorse. CCR seems to me to be the real villian in this matter and they offer any help not only begrudginly and with arrogance and disdain. Their so called managers Tony and Angelo will not give any contact information about their own company. During the course of my research into this matter Hancock Bank in Gulfport, MI was very helpful and explained they dropped pharmcards as a customer almost immediatly,Payment Resources Inc of Newport Beach,CA was also very helpful and I believe dropped pharmcards as a customer as well.I do find it fascinating that CCR is still involved and that they REFUSE to identify any of their other "customers".One would think they would choose to be helpfull rather than adviserial.

My wife ordered a product from Warner Lambert and also a company called Pro-Clean, these are the only two situations where she revealed the information that was used to perpatrate this crime. I just feel that CCR is somehow complicite in this ongoing criminal enterprise.

Very Truly Yours

Kevin may have hit the nail on the head, this scam goes beyond checking accounts and into identity theft

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 26, 2004

Kevin, I think you may be on to something about paying for magazine subscriptions. Routing and account numbers are rather specific pieces of information, so I feel there has to be a common thread among the vicitms. This may be it.

I might also add that you and all other victims should order your credit reports from the "Big 3" credit agencies (Experian, Equifax, and Transunion), just in case this scam goes beyond checking accounts and into identity theft.
