In July 2009, my mother and I purchased a new 2009 Outback Subaru Wagon from World Class Subaru in Nicholasville, KY. Due to color selection, the vehicle was traded between World Class and Wyatt-Johnson Subaru of Clarksville, TN. Upon arrival at World Class and during the cleanup of the vehicle, the personnel at World Class lost an addendum invoice from Wyatt-Johnson for certain services/enhancements and modifications done at Wyatt-Johnson's  dealership after the vehicle arrived from Subaru of America. The value of these services was an additional $2,000 above the MSRP, the World Class salesman was supposed to have retained this info for our vehicle records file and assured me that he would provide me with this dealer Addendum invoice. Upon delivery, I was informed that this requested invoice had been discarded by the cleanup staff. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed by this carelessness and disregard of my instructions to World Class.

Upon learning this, I called Wyatt-Johnson Subaru and spoke with their Sales Manager advising him of my predicament as they were the only ones who could help me as they had performed the enhancements and prepared the additional invoice. Instead of helping me and granting my simple request, Wyatt-Johnson refused to provide any info regarding this vehicle which had originated and was the subject of a dealer trade with their dealership. I found this totally unacceptable and very anti-consumer and a great way to sour a new Subaru purchase experience. A few days later, I called Wyatt-Johnson requesting the help of their General Manager. He continued to stonewall me and he declined my request for this information. His stated position was that I had not visited their dealership nor purchased the vehicle directly from them. I refuted his position by informing him that while this vehicle was in Wyatt-Johnson's care, custody and control certain enhancements had been made at their hands and that this did create a duty to disclose the requested information to me.

As they were the only party who knew what had been done to the vehicle. Out of 550 new Subarus sold by Wyatt-Johnson per year, it is foreseeable that a certain number of their cars would be traded to other Subaru dealers for sale to the public. Wyatt-Johnson actively sells vehicles to military families at army base Fort Campbell. I phoned the TN Automobile Association in Nashville about the problem with Wyatt-Johnson and was instructed by their Executive Director to contact Katherine Johnson Kanata, co-owner and explain the need for this info and request her help. After a lengthy conversation, Mrs Kanata agreed to supply the requested information, but after 3 months, she has not sent the promised information. By her failure to provide the requested information and by further verbal misrepresentation, she has left us with no other option than to file consumer complaints with the American Automobile Association New Vehicle Purchasing Program, TN Automobile Association, the Mid TN Better Business Bureau, TN Dept of Consumer Affairs, TN Motor Vehicle Commission and request help from Subaru of America.

The Better Business Bureau made 2 visits to the Wyatt-Johnson dealership and was also promised the information. However, Wyatt Johnson has repeatedly failed to provide this info to the Better Business Bureau, even though they are a member of the Better Business Bureau. Prior  to this posting, I have contacted nation wide radio and TV consumer advocate and talk show host Clark Howard whose staff have advised me to post this commentary on this site and several other consumer action areas. I would never recommend anyone purchase a car from Wyatt-Johnson Subaru at Clarksville, TN. nor would I ever purchase another Subaru from a dealer that has traded with Wyatt-Johnson. This has been an unpleasant car-buying experience. If anyone has any additional suggestions as to what I can do or who I can contact please advise.
