I was visited at my house by two representatives of Xtreme Promotions. The said they were just here to review specifications of my AT&T service on AT&T's behalf. The main person was wearing an AT&T shirt and they had paperwork that said AT&T Solution Provider so it all seemed very official. One of the specifications was a DSL prequalification. I asked them several times to make sure that I was NOT ordering DSL and they said NO as well as wrote on the form that it was a PREQUALIFICATION.
I was mildy interested in some of the other services they mentioned but I said I wanted time to check out the pricing before I comitted. They said no problem that they would be back later. I called AT&T in the meantime to verify these guys were in fact an official AT&T marketer and the prices they quoted. They were official and the "base" level prices were correct although they forgot to mention some additional fees. But on the whole it seemed on the up and up.
However, two days later I was visited by an AT&T technician to install my DSL service. I showed him the paperwork that said pre-qualification and he said thats terrible and gave me numbers to call and cancel. At this time I have not been able to cancel yet because these AT&T departments are closed for the weekend. I am not anticipating any problems with AT&T with this but I will post another report if I have any.
My main concern is that other people may sign up for many more services than I did and not realize they are doing it. Even though I was concerned and very wary of the DSL item, they were able to put my worries to rest by telling me several times that I was not ordering it and indicating prequalification on the form. Even with all that I was still signed up for DSL service. I recommend that anyone who is visited by Xtreme Promotions with regard to AT&T service ask them to leave immediately and deal directly with AT&T if you want to change your service or add additional items.
I want to emphasize that this is not a case of misunderstanding what they said. I am 100% sure that I was told and it was documented that I was not signing up for DSL service.
