I was recently in Israel on a JWRP Women's trip and bought a Roman Glass Necklace from Yaakov Shmuel Katan at Y. Sh.Ghatan and Sons Jewellry and Judaica Manufacturers and within one day the beautiful blue glass lost its color and the silver chain tarnished.
I went back to the merchant 2 days after purchasing the necklace and he violently yelled at me that he would not accept the necklace back and that I had ruined it. I promise you all i did was wear a silver necklace in teh Israeli heat of 95degrees. Sweat happens and what was I suppossed to do...not wear the item? Never before has silver tarnished within 2 days. This man yelled on the top of his lungs at me and refused over and over again to take any responsibility that the item was defective. The man even took my reciept as I told him I would file a complaint to the credit card company. I immediately began processing on canceling the credit card charge Only today has the decision come back that since the receipt (which he kept while we were arguing over the return...so I didn't even get the VAT in the airport) had a line which read no refund or cancel...the credit card company has refused to decline the charge. This man screamed and yelled me at his shop, never offered a certificate of authenticity ....and you wonder why the word shiester is associated with Israeli merchants? Do not buy from this merchant... Do not purchase something that says no refund or cancel. How can this be when the item is defective. Now I m back in the States and I have $175 necklace that I can not wear.

unfortunatly I did not know that there was even such a thing as a certificate of authenticity! Only after I begab havingproblems with it did another person in my group ask me aobut teh certificate. Which raises a good thing....as a tourist, how would I even know that a certificate of authentisity is even a part of a sale. I do not ask for certificate for other items I purchase why would I need this one. Other stores I shoped at for jewlery did not have something like this listed on the walls...oy vey is correct!!!!!!!!!!

Why did you buy it to begin with without a certificate of authenticity?
