On 1/22/02, I called Yappie Cuttery in Manassas, Virginia, and never having utilized them before asked the person on the phone how much it would be to bathe my 85 pound Golden retriever/Collie mix.

Her answer was $35.00 - I made an appointment for the next morning (1/23). I dropped the dog off at 9:00 in the morning, and was told I would be called when he was ready to be picked up. At approximately 1:30 in the afternoon I was told he was ready, and I returned to the store. The person behind the counter told me the bill was $40.

When I asked why the price was more than I was quoted, they told me only the manager sets prices and he was not in the store. They told me I could pay the $40 and if it was later changed to $35 I could apply it to my next visit.

I told them I would give them the $35 they quoted me on the telephone, and if it turned out to be $40 they could bill me for the balance. The store refused to release my dog until I paid the new price!

I reluctantly paid, and asked that the manager call me when he returned to the store that afternoon. No call was ever received that day. I waited until noon the next day, and went to the store to talk to the manager.

The person at the desk told me that he was in but on the phone, I elected to wait. After approximately ten minutes the person at the counter asked me what this was about, and I told her. She told me that the manager had left a message on my answering machine (another lie, I checked and there was no message) and that she was the one who quoted me the price, and that she told me "approximately $35" (another lie, I asked her specifically for the price because I had never been there before).

I still have not received any call from the manager, but I am quite sure there are State and Federal laws against this kind of price switching - even besides holding my pet hostage until I pay what they want.

I can't believe they would do it for a lousy $5, or have this kind of poor customer service.

Yappie cuttery - 100% guarantee is also a farse

POSTED: Saturday, February 16, 2002

On 1/26/02 I mailed a copy of the original "rip-off report" to the manager, advising of my discust over the entire incident. I further advised that I would like to take advantage of their 100% guarantee of happiness that they advertise. No response has ever been received from the company, to include my refund of even the original $5.00 they ripped me off for. I would stay away from this business at all costs.
