I received a notice from LISA CARPENTER at A.C.A. Recovery Inc (American Collection Agency) saying that my company owed $604.95 to YELLOWPAGESONLINE, a website that we supposedly agreed to have do marketing for us.  Of course, we never did this, and the fact is that this is the same group of people behind the RegionalPages.com scam we reported here at the following locations: Rip-off Report, Complaints Board, and Complaints.com (simply hit their websites and do a search on any of the following terms: "Regional Pages" "RegionalPages.com" "Online Yellow Pages" or the like).

Here's how the scam works: the company calls, making it sound like they work with the Yellow Pages (but they don't; the real Yellow Pages are still legit), and ask you a bunch of questions for "simple verification": things like company name, address, your name, etc.  They try to get you to sign up for marketing services, and of course, if you are smart you say "No."

But then, months later, they call back saying you signed up and owe them (or that you had previously signed up a few years ago, and owe them for that).  They hack up the recording of your call so that every time you said "Yes" to something innocent (like "Your company's name is XYZ, correct?"), you're now saying "Yes" to their charges and fees.

We filed reports with all the above sites, the Better Business Bureau, and the FTC about this, and apparently, this company just has to change its name and start the whole process over again.  LISA says that she understands my story and (after giving her all the dates, times, invoice #s and so  on) that she'll submit my company as "In Dispute" to....whomever.  She didn't elaborate.  She also wasn't able to give me any indication when or if I'd hear more about this.

Whatever you do, never say YES to anyone on the phone unless you know EXACTLY who you are talking to, why they are talking to you, and how to get in contact with them after they are done talking to you.  This is a nightmare.
