A college kid came to my door telling me that he was part of a group raising money to fund a trip to Europ had an ASU shirt on. he said he was a broadcast major and that the trip was for him to announce a soccor game and report on it. Said that huis family lived in the neiborhood and that his father told him that if he could raise half of the money for the trip (as they get to keep 50% of the moneys collected) his father would support him the rest of the way. I told him that I did not have the cash to support the sale and would not have any money till the coming Friday.
He stated that he could take a check for any amount and that they were not turning in the paperweork till the end of the week. He said they were told that it would take a few weeks to clear the checks anyways. I told him that I would write a check but date it for that friday. He said for him to ge the credit for today the check had to have that day but to remember it was not going to process for weeks. He thanked me for the donation said that his father would select the magazines and that they would be shiped over seas.
Within 2 hours the money had been taken out of my account overdrawing me and charging me an NSF fee the reciept that I had stated that I could write them a letter and cancel the deal as long as it made it to the address in 3 days I could also email them my intentions. I emailed them 2 times never got a responce and sent them the request to cancel. Now on my part I did not keep copies or send it certified. I did notice also that the reciept number that I had and the one written in by the sales person did not match. That was on the 22nd of april 2014 an today on 5-19-2014 I got hit with another charge for 100. It seems that he electronicly send the check thru the first time and then turned the endorsed check in at a PLS check cashing spot.

Strangers at your door

Never EVER buy anything from a complete stranger at your door. (Actually, it is a bad idea to even open the door if you aren't expecting someone/package delivery, etc). These magazine salespeople always have the same stories: they live in the neighborhood, they are raising money for a trip/scholarship/charity, etc. Actually, when they claim to live in your neighborhood, it is fun to mess with them. Say "oh what street"? They will name a street nearby and then you say "so you are Bill Wiggins' daughter/son"? They will answer yes or he is my neighbor, etc. Then laugh in their faces and tell them to get lost. I do feel sorry for the people who engage in this work, as they work on 100% commission, travel the U.S. and sleep 8-10 to a motel room, etc. They are desperate people. But, they are liars and also the odds of you actually getting your mags is next to nothing. Just say NO!
