Where to begin?
I was contacted by a company called Your Area Code about a possible sales position in the internet marketing industry. This is not, or was not, a MLM scheme by any means and the prospects looked great.
After a 3-day "training" session (held in a rented room above a FedEx Kinkos that they never paid for), the new group of salespeople was sent out with "leads" to go sell. There was to be no cold calling, etc. Needless to say, this was precisely the case.
You may be sitting there saying "well thats your own fault for getting involved with this" but the fact is, I was straight lied to...repeatedly. It's not so much the inaccuracies of their "training" but the blatant disrespect and flat-out lies that their "management team" showed to myself and others involved.
I knew that a problem was brewing when nearly everyone being trained quit after a week, and those that stuck it out ended up quitting after "seeing the light". This light involved terrible business practices, deception of customers and employees, and failure to pay as per previous agreements. Here I was, a graduate of a top-20 university with a degree in finance and previous entrepreneurship successes, surrounded by dropouts and led by a team of misfits.
I was told that I was "special" and was placed on a per-week "salary" (via a telephone conversation...a major mistake on my part...should have gotten that in writing) that lasted about 2 weeks. For the remaining month, I was working, not getting paid and getting annoyed by the disrespect of their "management". Since, I have ignored the company's requests to speak about it, as I am fed up with their bullshit, and have proceeded with filing claims against the company for unpaid wages and tax fraud, amongst other things (I anticipate to get nothing, as they have nothing, but money isn't an issue for me fortunately).
It wasn't just me either, I was contacted by no less that 3 other employees about not being paid and the outlandishly insane reasons for why the main man hadn't either contacts them or paid them. ie "I left my checkbook in my briefcase at the hotel" "I was busy" "I told my secretary to mail it, did she not?" Oh, and the secretary is his wife...
Here is what I have to offer: Their "management team" consists of a felon former-vaccum cleaner salesman, a nursing school dropout, and a 40 year-old former construction worker-turned internet entreprenuer with 3 previous failures under his belt.
The only, and I repeat only, valuable asset to the company is the owner/developer of the concept who has a great vision and is unfortunately being greatly misled and managed by his coworkers.
Do not get involved with this company, bottom line. I am 23 years old and have more honesty, ethics, morals, financial security, and management skills in my pinkie than this entire sham of a "company".

Not for everyone, just the dedicated

So i figured I should bring some truth to this review. First I have been with the company almost 4 years and would not be here if unethical or just not done right. First checks aren’t written from the owners check book we have an actual pay roll company.
Next no cold calling? Haha. What kind of sales job does not require cold calling. Hard work is what this job takes and honestly most people aren’t cut out for it. They will blame people, name call, and pass the blame to make themselves feel better for their failure. We build some of the best websites in the Indistry and have some other amazing products as well.
Not everything in life is handed to us like the previous reviewer seemed to be used too. If you are looking to work for a company that hard work is rewarded come on board. Expect to work hard and make good money. That’s what successful sales people do. If you have heart and passion you can do this job and you will love it.
The owner is young and honestly a genius when it comes to the digital world. There are so many things coming into the digital world as we are on the cusp of them all! Love this company.

Disgruntled Independent Sub-Contractor terminated for non-performance
AUTHOR: Wendye - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, March 08, 2011
The posting in question was written by a former independent sub-contractor, Anthony B (we have chosen not to publish his full name to protect his identity), whose contract was terminated with YourAreaCode in 2008 due to non-performance, and makes numerous claims that are explicitly untrue:
1. “There was to be no coldcalling”. We do not provide any lead generation to our new sales representatives as they work as independent sub-contractors. We detail this in our independent sub-contractor agreement, which Mr. B signed.
2. “I was lied to repeatedly”. The training session that this employee attended was conducted by the owner and managing partner of YourAreaCode. We detail EVERYTHING in writing, including training tools, contracts and agreements. It seems incomprehensible that a person with Mr. B's alleged education and work experience would not insist upon written contracts. There was absolutely NO lying, nor the possibility of lying.
3. “failure to pay as per previous agreements”. We have paid all of our contractors, employees, and vendors as detailed in every written agreement we have ever had with them and maintain meticulous records, including the copies of the cashed checks by Mr. B.
4. “I...was placed on a per-week salary that lasted about two weeks”. This employee was paid for four weeks and we have the cashed checks to prove it.
5. “I...have proceeded with filing claims against the company for unpaid wages and tax fraud”. There have been absolutely NO filings of either sort by this former contractor or on behalf of him in Illinois (his state) or Michigan (YourAreaCode’s home office state) or the Internal Revenue Service.
6. “the secretary is his wife”. Our managing partner is married but does not have a secretary. Our office manager, who does many secretarial things for our managing partner, is NOT his wife and is NOT married.
7. “Their ‘management team’ consists of a felon former-vaccum cleaner salesman, a nursing school dropout, and a 40 year-olf former construction worker-turned internet entrepreneur with 3 previous failures under his belt”. Our management team, at the time of Mr. B’s contract, consisted of owner and partner, Bill Whitmire, a graduate of ITT who conceived of our service and coded our website, owner and managing partner, Steven Hummel, a Microsoft-Certified computer technician and successful small business owner, and our Sales Manager, Wendye Hathaway, a summa c*m laude BA who previously was the National Sales Director for an international company, and has over 20 years of sales experience.
Please contact YourAreaCode with any questions regarding this, or any other matter, at 616-622-2000 or 24-hours a day at 888-244-7751.

#3 Consumer Suggestion
Go elsewhere

Your Area Code is gouging with the current price structure so it's no wonder the sales are hard and will be getting harder to come by. To avoid being ripped off by this company you must first realize that the social network site thing is a gimmick. The only social network sites that matter to you or your business is Twitter and facebook. Maybe you can add Linkdyn and Myspace but YAC just doesn't even register. I have personally found ZeusText.com to be a much more affordable alternative with amazing customer support and I know of many other companies who provide similar services to YAC for a much more economical price. Plus YAC makes you sign long term contracts because they are well aware of the fact that with some research you are able to find much better deals.
Avoid sales positions with your area code... They want you to sell to your buddy who owns a bar and then your as good as done.

Best company I've worked for.

I'm wondering if this disgruntled employee is talking about the same YourAreaCode, LLC? I've worked for this company for about a year now. I am a sales rep and Really enjoy my job. I enjoy the people I work for and with. They provided paid training for all sales reps and sales managers and have a highly competitive pay. I have been extremely successful and I also have a lot of fun working for YourAreaCode.
The only reason anyone would fail in this company is if they did nothing. The tools are there, it's a great product and the company pushes you to succeed. I love my career and I think you would too. If you love sales and enjoy making money, you should check them out!! www.yourareacode.com

Good job, great company

I'm not sure were even talking about the same company.
I have worked for Yourareacode LLC since mid July of this year, and they have been great to me. They have a really neat system, providing internet and mobile phone marketing tools to bars and clubs.
They provided me with a large list of leads from their website and telemarketing support, my commission checks have come right on time.
I am 30 and have worked other commission sales jobs in the past, this is one has been very straight forward and well organized, the product is great, the support is great, the money is good.
Maybe you should talk to them.
