I was a Sales Manager for them in the NYC Market. This was a daunting task to say the least. They wanted to make this there #1 market. Problem was they need'ed a sales force. They Paid me a token salary with no bennies. My sales reps were all commission. The presentation was long and half the time the site went down. in order to be a sales rep you need'ed your own lab top and cell phone. I was training reps and then sending them out and trailing them - A rep it they lasted more than two weeks actually gave it a try. It was hard - not to mention walking the streets in NYC during the winter! Oh and they had to pay for there own transportation. It was a good idea but the execution was not so good. The bars we did sign up were not happy with the service and were constantly complaining. I was told to give them another promotion. On the bright side I got to interview and post ads for promo models and train them as well. Once I got to a owner had to be a decision maker to write the check for nearly $3,000 and do a promo if the internet worked i had a lengthy presentation to go thru. need less to say it was a learning experience. Now people just use twitter which links all social plat formsfor the same promise they gave out. Every bar that signed up did not renew and im glad i didnt sell to anyones i go to!

YourAreaCode wishs Mr. M well but...

The posting in question was written by a former independent sub-contractor, John M (out of respect, we do not use his full name), whose contract was terminated with YourAreaCode in 2009. I know this because he used his own email, Facebook, and twitter name and he is my friend on Facebook.
Additionally, there are numerous claims that are explicitly untrue:
1. “half the time the site went down”. We maintain our own servers and have clients, independent contractors, and customers nationwide. We log any time our site goes down. Our site has never been unavailable for longer than a few seconds so, unless he only worked for 10 seconds during the entire time he was paid by us, then this claim in untrue and, as such, is libelous.
2. “in order to be a sales rep you need’ed your own lab top and cell phone”. We provided Mr. M AND one of his reps with a laptop computer (which is what I am assuming he means by “lab top”) in expectation of sales that were never made.
3. “The bars we did sign up were not happy with the service and were constantly complaining”. Mr. M’s actually only signed up one client himself and it was a film company. Most of the clients in the New York City market simply disappeared at the end of their contracts, stating that they couldn’t
get any local service. However, we do still have satisfied clients from that market to this day... two years later.
4. “write the check for nearly $3,000”. Our clients have annual service contract for which they pay an average monthly fee. To my recollection, we never received any “paid-in-full” contracts from Mr. M or his sub-contractors.
5. “write the check for nearly $3,000 and do a promo if the internet worked I had a lengthy presentation to go thru”. Our sales process is presentation of the product, contract negotiation and signing, contract fulfillment. It makes absolutely no sense that a business owner in New York City would write out a $3000 check for a product he hasn’t even been presented with.
6. “now people just use twitter which links all social platformsfor the same promise they gave out”. We have a patent-pending technology that combines social networking integration, SMS text messaging, e-mail marketing, content-managed website design and build, and print marketing. To my knowledge, Twitter does not provide our combination of services, nor many of the individual, customized services we provide our clients.
7. “Every bar that signed up did not renew”. As stated in above, we still have happily satisfied, paying clients in the New York City area.
Please contact YourAreaCode 24-hours a day at 888-244-7751 with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sounds like a Bad Sales Manager.

I am the Sales Manager for Florida and started working for YAC in August 2010. I just wanted to give a fair rebuttal to this report. There are a couple of true statements. Yes, the sales force is commission based (but can earn a salary with performance) Yes, the are no bennies as he puts it and yes I would imagine walking the streets in NY during the winter can be hard. Now for the real facts: 1. The presentation is only 15-20 minutes. The site is hosted in a secure data facility with 99.999% uptime. In South Florida there are over 60 clients. I will say it's not for everyone. If the system is worked properly, it the best new marketing tool for a small to medium size business. I have 5 sales people and not 1 has left yet. The bottom line, is that this is a great marketing tool which incorporates text, social media and e-mail marketing, a dynamic website and widget technology all controlled by an online digital dashboard! To end, anyone who writes that the best part of their job was interviewing promo models....can you really take them seriously? Talk with a YAC consultant and see for yourself.
