I went into a neighboring Zales store to have a battery replaced.I had purchased an expensive battery that wasn't suppose to go bad on me while I owned the watch, but if it did all I had to do is bring it in to any Zales store and they would replace the battery for free.

So, I went in and while the lady was replacing my battery she broke it . She turned to me and told me and my mother who was standing beside me that she broke my watch and that in the 20 years she had worked there , this had never happened before. So, she said that they had a guy in town that worked on watches and if he couldn't fix it and it had to be sent away, they would just replace it with a new one. So, we found out that he couldn't fix it and they refused to give me a new one like she said she would.

I spoke with the manager and he was very errogant and hateful. It did not matter what his employee of 20 years said to me. I can't imagine that they would not keep their word. She (the employee that broke my watch) said all they would have to do is get my info as far as my address and when I bought my watch from Zales. I think they found out that I didn't buy it there- I bought it at another Zales in another location. He (the manager)said they would send it off to be fixed at their expense, but it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get it back.

I was told that they would not put me through that, that they would just replace the watch with a new one. I can't believe an employee of 20 years doesn't know what the store policies are. I believe she did know their policies but the manager found out I didn't buy it at their store , so he is refusing to keep her word to me. They still have my watch at this time.

The store employee's name was Sharon. Her associate # is 0063. She put on my claim check that the repair return date was 10 days later after I went in there, not 6 to 8 weeks.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Words of Wisdom

Yes, they promise you the world in the event something happens - even BEFORE it happens, such as your watch being broken right in front of your eyes.

Here are words of wisdom - tell them that if they do not return your watch to you (immediately) that you will report it to the police as stolen. If they do not return your watch to you - then go to the police and report it stolen. When and if you get your watch back, walk out the door and NEVER return to Zales for ANY kind of repair again.

Make sure you give this same advice to anyone who's made the mistake of sending ANYTHING through them for a "repair" or any other reason of ANY kind.

NEVER NEVER NEVER allow this company to keep, hold, send off, size, alter or anything else involving your jewelry - regardless of whether or not you've purchased it at a ZALES store or not- it does not matter.

Realize that even if you've got all the documentation in the world, signed receipts and contracts - that they won't necessarily honor those - even though a receipt WILL hold up in a court of law as a contract ;)

My last piece of advice to you is this - read every single complaint on this board and realize that you're the latest victim of their playbook.

Make sure it doesn't happen to anyone you know.
