On December 3 of 2005, I made an online purchase from Zales.com. I purchased a two tier diamond ring with baguettes through the middle. Upon recieving the ring my fiance noticed that the baguettes had occlusions throughout and one of the diamonds looked cracked almost in half.

Needless to say we were not happy with the ring, and thought it was nowhere near worth 418 dollars. I called the company and complained. At that time they e-mailed me a return ship label to return the item. I returned the item on December 6.

As of December 14 I had still not been charged for the item. I contacted Zales.com again by phone to find out why they didn't charge my account for the ring. I was told at that time they had recieved the ring back, and didn't have a clue why it wasn't charged.

After further discussion I was told that since they had gotten the ring back and I hadn't been charged yet the order would be cancelled. I explained to the supervisor that I didn't want it to pop up on my account later because I had written checks that could bounce. I was assured that my account would not be charged, and they were very sorry for the quality I recieved.

I went to my bank to make a withdrawal on December 16 and was informed that my account was overdrawn by over 400 dollars. Zales.com, the day after talking to them, charged my account 418 dollars. To say the least I was livid.

I contacted Zales again to find out why they did exactly the opposite of what they said. The person I talked to this time said I should never have been told that it wouldn't charge to my account and that they couldn't just cancel an order. He also told me I would be credited for the error but it could take up to 10 working days.

Needless to say, that was completely unacceptable! I informed him that I had other checks coming in and they needed to credit my account immediately. After 2 more days of being put on hold and transferred I was told that the 418 dollars was credited to my account as of noon.

On December 27 they did credit my account. Only 9 days after he said it was credited at noon. I still had 45 dollars in overdraft charges on my account, and wanted to know if they were going to take care of that because it was their fault in the first place I got them. I brought this up throughout all contacts up to December 24. Today, December 28, I was finally told that it was not their practice to credit overdraft charges, but this time they would, and it should take at least one week to show on my account.

So if you have the courage to buy from Zales, I hope you are happy with your purchase to begin with. Otherwise be ready for a fight to get a refund and a very long wait!!!
