Public records are Public
AUTHOR: ZattaFact - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, September 22, 2015
All the records we publish are considered 'Public Records.'
The public has a constitutional right to have access to them, and they are not illegal to publish.
There are a few reports from Congress and the FTC that discuss public records and privacy issues. There are records that are considered private, such as medical data, but these are covered by their own laws (HIPPA, etc.)
Some States, like California, have passed laws that prohibit the online publishing of addresses and phone numbers of Public Officials and law enforcement officers. A few other States protect law enforcement in the same way.
Since we get our information from Public sources, and you say the information is in error, you need to contact the sources of this information. That would be local, state and federal government offices, including voter roles, land records, court filings, marriage and divorce, etc.
