I received one year of home warranty with purchase of my home and added another 5 years and was supposed to receive an extra six months.  I paid it in full.  The first time I tried to use my warranty they were not able to find anyone.  I had a water leak shooting 6 ft into the air for two weeks.   I realized it was a mistake to trust them for timely repairs if I cared about not having my property damaged.  I called and asked them to cancel and send a refund.  Instead, they told me to find someone and send them the bill.  I got it fixed but never sent a bill because a friend came out to help and we had to repair damage caused by not fixing it sooner.

I never got a login to file an online claim, despite contacting HSC, my realtor and movplicity.  I tried to get my policy number today only to find out my account is canceled.  I never got a refund or any response.  I figured I must still have a warranty with HSC.  HSC says it's canceled but they don't have any notes at all about the cancelation.  They say I need to talk to a supervisor and transfer me.  They transfer me to some home warranty company that oversees more than one company.  I never get transferred to a supervisor.

I think I just gave up on them.  Three months after I tried to cancel I got another home warranty company.  Unfortunately, I just discovered today that Choice Home Warranty is under the same umbrella.  I also have another story where Choice sent over an HVAC company that tried to scam me.  We waited over a week in 100° temps and that company kept not showing up or calling.  When they finally did show up they showed me a capacitor with a fried lizard on it and said it wasn't covered.  The part had a manufacture date of five months after I purchased my home.  I hadn't ever replaced a capacitor.  So that wasn't my capacitor or my lizard.  I took a photo to prove it while the technician was still at my home and I went I inside to call Choice Home Warranty.  The technician got in his truck and sped off without saying anything.  Choice didn't care.  I called another HVAC company to fix my AC and paid out of pocket.  It just reminded me of HSC.  I asked them to cancel my account and refund my money.  They wrote me something and said they were processing the cancelation.  They did not.  That was three years ago.  I called today and asked again.  The warranty ends in 2025.  It's mid 2023 and they said I wouldn't get even half back.  I told them I have prove that I tried to cancel 3 years ago so I should get refunded as of then.  They offered me $126 to replace my two hot water heaters instead.   So I've paid about $9,000 for three home warranties and have received 100% aggravation and 0% value.  I've paid the entire cost to replace two HVAC units, a well house tank, repaired septic system and haven't had hot water for more than a year because home warranties are designed to take your money and provide as little value as possible.  They really aren't there to provide value and help you when you need it.  Buy one at your own risk and record your phone calls and set aside money for an attorney.

You may wonder why I'm mentioning my experience with Choice Home Warranty under this HSC complaint.  It's because they are the same company basically.  Same web site...you get forwarded to the same number to be ignored.

I'm very frustrated that these companies take advantage of people.

Did you read the contract?

AUTHOR: Flint - (Afghanistan)

If you had read the contract before buying the policy, you would have realized a) they don't make any promises about repair timeframes, and b) they have a long list of exclusions that covers almost any conceivable way something could fail.  For example, a lizard is "animal damage" and it's excluded.  If they couldn't use that, they would use one of the generic "rust", "lack of maintenance", or "not normal wear and tear" clauses.  Even if you somehow got them to replace the unit, the contractor would sock you with thousands of dollars for "modifications", which basically pay their labor fee (the home warranty company only gives them like $100).  And guess what, "modifications" are not covered.

On top of that, home warranty companies use the absolute worst contractors possible, who are usually con artists and/or don't know what they are doing.

Stop buying home warranties and just put the money in a savings account.  You'll be better off by a long shot.
