In Jan 2008 I went to Intelius.com to try to look up an old friends information thru their service. After paying I was given some advertisement screens where I said "no thank you" when I realized they were just cheap ads for stuff I didn't need. One of these was 24ProtectPlus.com. I said NO THANK YOU & moved on & forgot the entire incident. Weeks later I find out that my credit card has been charged $19.95 for a membership fee to 24Protect Plus without my authorization. This 24Protect Plus company is claiming that I clicked YES to their offer when I did not. So I called Bank of America who handles my credit card & reported them. HOWEVER, Bank of America is claiming that they can't do anything because I gave 24Protect Plus my information! NO I DID NOT! Well, come to find out... INTELIUS.COM automatically gives 24Protect Plus all your private financial information so they can charge your account. I wonder if Intelius is getting a big under the table kickback for helping this 24Protect Plus company in this scheme? Bank of America is no better because they are not protecting their customers from consumer fraud as they claim they do. After doing a lot of research & reading tons of other people's experiences with this scam, I found out that I received an unsolicited email that was in my spam folder (yeah wonder why!) from 24Protect Plus saying that I was now a member & gave me some account info they generated themselves to access my account with them. In order to "opt out" & cancel this bogus membership you never signed up for, you have to log in using the info they generated on your behalf & cancel the membership on their website to stop the charges from coming again. This amounts to your admitting that you logged into their site on your own which assumes you created the account willingly when you did not. MOST OF ALL... when you type the words 24Protect Plus or 24ProtectPlus or any variation into Google search you get back a TON of webpages where many others are reporting they have been scammed in various ways by this company for YEARS (I just saw one on this site from 2004). Our government, law enforcement, lawyers & credit card companies all just ALLOW this to keep going on. If you read many of the victim's accounts of what happened to them you see a pattern develop. This company has had several different scams that keep evolving to stay one step ahead of the laws as laws are made to abolish the loopholes this company is using to rip off people. When the laws change to plug up the loophole that was never intended to allow people to be cheated... this company just adapts & finds another loophole to cheat people. They make sure they can always weasel out of everything by saying it's the victim's own fault when it is not. There is very little way that I can prove that I said NO THANK YOU when they are saying I said yes & Intelius is too. However, it's just their word against mine. They were the ones in control of the computer code under the buttons, not me. So they can't prove that I did actually say Yes when it's just their word that the button did what it was supposed to do. Especially given the track history of this company, no one should ever believe that THIS MANY PEOPLE ARE ALL LYING THAT THEY DID NOT SIGN UP! How can we all just be lying the same exact lie when none of us know each other!? It's ridiculous that our government has not brought a stop to this company's activities & held them accountable. If EVERYONE would report them & stand up for their rights we may have the power to stop them. Being a lemming only empowers these type companies who prey on the public's lack of knowledge about computer coding & our government's ignorance about technological rip offs! If you are a victim speak out! Sign up to every website for consumer protection you can & tell your story until some lawyer gets smart & helps us press a class action suit against these scammers. The main thing is that they cannot PROVE that we said yes when there is no impartial party witnessing that we did say yes & keeping them honest. All they have as witnesses is Intelius who financially profit from it's relationship with 24Protect Plus. They cannot prove that the code was not altered to give both both buttons a positive answer. I would even speculate that the code is written such that it only gives occassional false positive responses so that they can call it an innocent error in the coding. These people are GOOD at loopholes. It's time we make a law in this country against loopholing. Well, I for one am not only reporting all this but I'm canceling all my business with Bank of America for not supporting me as a victim of fraud. Any financial institution who helps companies cheat people is NOT where I want to put my money!
