Like millions of others I subscribed to AT&T sometime in 2004 and I signed up for a one-year plan. This plan let me change my number, change phones (for a price) and upgrade to another plan virtually anytime I liked, which was good because I lost my phone a few times and replaced it the same day by visiting an AT&T store. Or, I moved to another city and changed my number by calling customer service.
Since the two companies merged, however, it's impossible for people with AT&T phones to go to a Cingular store and get a replacement phone, or change your phone number.
The company is in some corporate mess which the consumer pays for by getting the run-around and at $250 an hour, which is my salary, I lost about $500 by wasting an hour going to the store and another hour calling AT&T to order a new phone.
Oh, yes, and you do have to switch to Cingular and SIGN UP FOR A PLAN AGAIN, if you want any kind of service from the company. This is the worst example of corporate ethics I've encountered in a very, very long time.

I work as an authroized agent for cingular wireless. I started here in November and have heard more complaints than complements. Not only do you have to re-sign a contract and buy another phone, if you have any problems such as a lost, broken or stolen phone you will be forced to "migrate" to cingular (there phrase not mine) One customer lost her phone (she was an AT&T customer) called to have her service suspended and when she found the phone with in the week she called to have service resumed. They told her that it would be a $50.00 fee OR she could migrate and they would send her a new phone. She was un-happy with the phone and also unhappy with the coverage. Cingular told her to bad. Unfortunatly there is nothing I can do in these situations, and my rep is unwilling to help even if she could. They are getting better as far as coverage area, as in its comparable to what AT&Y's coverage was before the mergar. They are however continueing to convert AT&T contract holders over to cingular however and with what ever methods they can.
