Do not ever buy Dell Computers... there is no support for anything. Get a virus and you are done. I got a virus and the whole hard drive was gone... went to buy another and realized that Dell doesnt provide recovery disks ... only a partition (that is now bad)... so I call to have them send me one so I can get my $1600 computer back.... not that easy... they wanted to CHARGE ME for a CD that they should have sent me in the first place! I have purchase hundreds of thousands of dollars in computers from there... but no more. I am changing out our corporate purchases moving forward.

I can only imagine how they treat 1 time purchases. Buying a Dell is the biggest mistake you can make. The company has gone down hill... the computers have gone downhill... and the service is way down the hill. Always the dollars! Always the dollars!

Spend your money elsewhere on someone or a brand that cares.... Below is my conversation with Dell about this matter....

9:31:56 PM         System  You are now being connected to an agent. Thank you for using Dell Chat
 9:31:56 PM         System  Connected with CLKsmb_Marivic _217286
9:32:01 PM         CLKsmb_Marivic _217286  Thank you for contacting Dell Basic Warranty Support. My name is Marivic. I will be happy to assist you with your issue.
9:32:28 PM         ME  Hello Marivic - I need a recovery disk for my PC - It was hit by a virus and wont even reboot.
9:32:45 PM         ME  no that is my cell - the best number
9:33:11 PM         CLKsmb_Marivic _217286   Can you confirm the system that you would like to have support with is DIME520 with Service Tag ****** ?
9:33:27 PM         ME  That is correct!
9:34:41 PM         CLKsmb_Marivic _217286  Thank you. Regarding on the OS disk of the system you will need to purchase it on our Dell Sales Department at 1-877-220-3355 .
9:35:10 PM         ME  I have to purchase the disk? I cant get a copy of it?
9:35:55 PM         ME  I brought the PC from you ... why do I have to repurchase it from you again?
9:35:56 PM         CLKsmb_Marivic _217286  I do apologized but you will need to purchase the disk since the system warranty is already expired way back 2007
9:36:17 PM         ME  It isnt a system issue - its a software
9:37:06 PM         CLKsmb_Marivic _217286  Yes, I understand. However, the software disk was still covered by the warranty. That''s why you will need to purchase the OS disk for you to do reinstallation.
9:38:14 PM         ME  Well... I wont be buying any more Dell Computers and will make it my goal and aim to blast you all online as much as possible. I have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars with you all for corporate purchases and cant even it a simple CD for my sons computer. Thanks for nothing!
9:39:32 PM         CLKsmb_Marivic _217286  I do apologized for this matter, Steve. However, as far as I would like to send you the disk the system warranty was already expired. we will need to have a active warranty to process your request.
9:40:06 PM         ME  yea more money basically... it always come down to it.... its a CD for a old computer.
9:40:13 PM         ME  again.. thx for nothing.
9:40:21 PM         ME  goodbye ... for good!

Do not buy a Dell Computer! Go Elsewhere, you will not get support, you will not get help. You will regret it!

Why are you upset at Dell over this?

AUTHOR: DevinUll - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 23, 2012

1) There are no manufacturers that I know of that provide the OS disk anymore.
2) You don't have support anymore. It's like insurance. If you don't pay for it, you can't expect them to pay for you.
3) IF you really are involved in the purchasing of machines for your company, you would have known all about the support contracts.
4) We do care about our customers. At least I do.
5) You got a virus which was software, and you are blaming Dell, a hardware vendor.

I would like to know what PC manufacturer you decide to switch to at your company. I know of none that would provide software for free several years after the support ran out.

#2 Consumer Comment

Not new

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 01, 2012

I doubt if you have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars with Dell.

Anyway, this is not a new procedure in the industry.  All the companies I am familiar with have been doing it this way for many years.  There is a recovery partition that you can completely restore your hard drive from.  Vurus's do not touch it. It takes the machine back to the way it was when it was new.

This does not help if your hard drive goes bad so they always recommend that you create a set of recovery disks yourself when the machine is new.  They provide instructions for this. If you choose not to do this, they will sell you a recovery CD.  It's all part of reducing prices and it's not a big deal.

They are never responsible for virus's, Spyware etc., that's your job.  You make sure all your data is backed up too don't you? You made a fool of yourself with the company rep.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Is your computer plugged in?

AUTHOR: Larry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 30, 2012

The reason I asked if your computer was plugged in is because you do not seem to be the type of person who pays much attention to details. The way to avoid viruses is with an anti-virus program.  Get one.  When you purchased your computer there should have been some instructions about creating back-up CD's.  Next time, read the instructions, create the CD's.
