When I started this service, I was lied to from the begining. I was told I had to sign a contract to even get this service.

I had this service not even a month, I canceled on March 9th, They billed me through May 13th, as well as charging me for 2 seperate packages! And also threw in the contact cancel fee.

The companies' customer support were all rude to me when I called to cancel. I was having to move to an apartment that did not want satellites, and furnished cable.

The point is that if I knew I had a "no contract option" I would have went that route to begin with. Now they are charging me for services I don't even have anymore!

And charging me for Two packages at once. This is so unbelievable.

They tried to blame the independant contractor that installed the dish. The contractor does sell for Dish Network. They need to screen these people better if this is the case.

But the contractor has nothing to do with overbilling and charging for two packages. The contractors' fault is not telling me that didn't have to sign a contract.

Dish Network does allow these contractors to install their services. They should go through some sort of training to give consumers all information on the services.

Dish Network is the only company I have ever dealt with in my life, that does not admit they are wrong and make it right.

So I am forced to drag this through the courts, I have retained a lawyer, and he says it's a 100 percent win case.

Be forwarned, Stay Away From Dish Network! They will lie, overbill, and charge for two packages when you upgrade! I have proof of this!

These contracts that companies have, should be forced by law, to protect us as the consumer from incompetance. They are only one sided, to protect the company, And force us to keep bad services.

I have learned from this I can say. I will Never sign another contract that does not protect the consumer. A rude Customer Service Rep should be enough to get out of a contract.

I tried working with the BBB on this issue. They are not much help. I also contacted Dish Networks' Customer Dispute Manager. She was very rude and unproffesional, passing the buck.

Dish Network actually thinks I should pay after being treated unhuman, getting actually yelled at by customer service, being overcharged, and tricked into a contract that protects all of this?

I think not! I will spend triple the money, they think I owe, on an attorney, to show them they can't treat people like this. they will not get a penny more from me.

I have read that Dish Network takes money from peoples' accounts without permission. I have canceled my credit card I used to start this service, And changed my bank account number.

Update

AUTHOR: Troy - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, September 28, 2009

This company did go ahead and reverse the charges for the cancellation fee, so they fixed the problem, but I am happy with my cable TV with no binding contract, so I will stick to my month to month cable TV service.

no more corrupt than the others

AUTHOR: Dschreib77 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 02, 2008

Unfortunately, in big business you don't deal with a company but an individual on the phone making a meager wage and staring at a computer program designed by a software developer contracted by the company in question. To them you're a flashing red button on the phone's receiver and an account # on the computer screen with a customer service rating according to how pleasant you have been to deal with, whether bills have been paid on time, etc. (seriously. I have a friend who works at a DirecTV call center and they rate customers that way). And their decisions aren't necessarily based on rationality.

Again, you're not dealing with a human, even though you talk to one. You're dealing with mouse clicks, from one screen to the next according to your problem and the clickers follow the on screen advice. The rest is out of their hands, therefore out of their minds. Problem solving does not apply. They're clock punchers like anyone else, sometimes working graveyards.

You're right, Dish Network is corrupt. As well as DirecTV, Comcast, Bresnan, Time Warner and Brighthouse (miss any?). Though you may have better luck with a different company, count yourself lucky if you do. Television is big business and does not care about you, regardless of who you choose to be your provider. For that matter, the owner of your car warranty, cell phone contract and internet service doesn't care either. Hell, your government runs on economics and could care less your ideals. I could tell some Alltell stories, but the bottom line is the only terminology they understand (if you can get upper management on the phone) is Payment, Lawyer, Better Business Bureau, and Consumer Protection Agency.

Legally, big business contracts can normally be fought and won easily under terms of 'Contract of Cohesion' law. That is, fine print contracts with a bunch of legal lingo no one without a business law degree really understands are not usually upheld in court on the consumer level. If it comes to that. I have had to deal with certain companies by telling them that the phone conversation we were having is the closest thing to payment they will ever receive from me, and that was that. If collections tried to get involved, I told them the same thing. And if it really comes down to it, like with a loan agent further down the road, a circumstance like yours can be explained to a reasonable agent. If not, there are always other people. 'People' being the key word. There are still reasonable ones out there to deal with.

The person who installed your system is not a lawyer, and probably muttered something about 2 year contract because that's what the piece of paper they were holding said on it, before handing it to you to sign and initial.

I know this because I was a technician for a Dish Network retailer for about 6 years, and was briefed on basic things like length of contract according to programming package. I can assure you that the last thing on the contractor's mind was explaining to you that 'you know, you could have signed up without a contract.' In my experience, I was there to do the job, not question the method. If someone asked, and they did from time to time, I would then tell them that instead of a lease contract they could buy certain systems outright. I doubt the contractor was out to swindle. There's nothing in it for them; no commission or anything, unless it involved an on the spot upgrade to the agreement, like HD or a recorder. And it's not their job to sell. It probably never occurred to them; otherwise they would be in sales instead of the labor side of things. The salesperson should have gone over options before the contractor was dispatched.

My main point is that your battle is Quixotic. Even if you win in court, who out there cares? Is it going to overturn capitalism, which is in essence what you're proposing? Unless you plan on taking it to the Supreme Court or organizing a Senate Subcommittee hearing, you will only accomplish something like a deleted balance in a database, if you win. My advice is keep the meaningless paperwork sent your way asking for money, let Dish know you don't plan to pay it for said reasons and move on. Go outside and realize none of it matters.

Oh Really?

So I go into a contact, with a independent contractor, but yet when I want to disconect, I have to go to Dish Network itself because it is "their" contract I am canceling? It is Dish Networks contract terms that are being signed. The independent contractor, did not write his own contract for Dish Network.

These contractors do work for Dish Tv, or through Dish Tv, it would be copyright infringement otherwise, if they had their "own" guidelines. So when I went to cancel, why did I have to call Dish Network itself? Why no cancel through the independent contractor if it "his" franchise or guidelines?

Give me a break. Contracts can be disputed. I was decieved, and I will let the whole world know that Dish Network is BAD!!

I pay $45 a month for cable tv. With Dish charging me for "two" packages, I was paying them $75. It would have been $50 or more if they were billing me right. The Cheapest? Whatever.

The representaves were VERY RUDE, with me. That is not acceptable behavior to me from a professional company. This is the only company I have ever been treated badly like this.

Directv have GOOD customer service, And do take things into consideration on contract cancellation, for instance a rude employee, Also they paid not one bill of mine at $67, but two to keep me. I only left them because I was needing a cheaper package, And I WILL go back to Directv someday. But NEVER AGAIN Dish Network. They are inhumane!

Go Directv, Stay away from Dish Network!! Trust me, I am filing deceptive trade, as well as false pretense, and mental anguish, against Dish Network. The lawyer I have retained "knows" the law.

He stated to me that the company Dish Network "IS" liable it is "THEIR" contact I was decieved into signing, not one made up by the independent contractor.

Dish Network need to train their contractors to explain "ALL" terms and conditions, for them not to say it is a "work order" sign and initial here. No matter what these contractors are selling Dish Network with the Dish Network Contract, not their own.

And if I am lead to sign a contract with a company deceptively, the company itself "IS" liable. The independent contractor is representing you Dish Network! Get Real! Train them, and record all of your customer service calls, Require them with a # to trace a specific call, so you can let people out of contracts like me for VERY RUDE and HATEFUL employees. As well as "take into consideration" that I WAS lied too by someone representing your Company!

third party contracts

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 12, 2006

Independant retailers are contracted to sell dish network products, and they have their own service agreements and specific contract conditions on service. There is no way that dish network could legally interfere with the service contract that a local retailer creates.

If you signed a contract to buy, say a HP brand printer and you felt the contract was unfair you couldnt go after HP, they simply provide the product and not the terms of service.

A 3$ a month increase is still the lowest all digital price in america, and we won JD power and associates #1 rating in customer satisfaction two years in a row. I no longer work at dish networks call center but I still have their services because I believe they are the best pay tv provider in many ways.

Dish Sucks!

AUTHOR: Sam - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 10, 2006

Not long ago I received a $3 per month ptrice increase and had signed a 1 1/2 yr contract. This increase came after six months of service. I called the independent service provider, Advanced Satellite, and complained because I made it very clear about the costs and what I was going to pay.

These people get really smart with you and tell you that I should read my contract. "well", I said, "I can read d**n well, and if you don't pay me every month the amount of the price increase, I'll see your sorry rear before a judge".... They check was in the mail quicker than you could blink an eye. I agree, these people at Dish and their independent contractors are scum and they try to hide behing their contracts. BUT, they don't realize that Deceptive Trade will get them nothing but a big fat lawsuit.

I would take their sorry rears down to the Court House and make them sorry they did business with you. I was actually hoping that they would not pay me so I could make their life misreable in depositions and discovery. When the contract is up, they know where they can go.

best of luck with your case.
