DriveTime Open Letter to DriveTime Nationwide

There are many things in life that people experience. The joy of accomplishing that task that seemed so impossible, the peace that comes from giving that loved one a gift they've always wanted and the satisfaction of knowing that your heart-felt donation to an organization will help make someone's life easier.


The experience I've had with Drivetime can be best described as Getting your teeth pulled out without any type of Novocaine Or Being mauled by a bear would be more relaxing. I would rather walk a mile with thumb tacks and broken glass in my shoes than to spend another year dealing with Drivetime. In the three years I've spent paying for this car I've been repeatedly lied to my face my multiple persons.

I understand that dealing with a car lender can be hard. But when a lender literally stalks you (and the people you unfortunately placed on that references sheet) just to tell you that Your early payment did not go towards your car and you need to make an additional payment of $33 to avoid the account being sent to collections should be a warning sign of what type of company you're dealing with.

It didn't matter that I was never late and that numerous people I've talked to from that Corporate Office refused to answer my question Where did my $188 payment go, if it wasn't to my car? So I paid the $33 (which was going to be used to buy my daughter diapers). I later found out that when you pay early, your payment goes towards your late fee (which is strange because I never was late prior to that incident).


Drivetime was recommended to me by a car salesmen (who has a cousin that works for DriveTime). He told me that he understands I'm newly married, I have a baby on the way and my wife and I couldn't keep sharing a car. And that Constantly having my credit checked by all these car dealerships is a waste of time and it'll hurt my credit. Drivetime only deals with people who have No credit or bad Credit. At the moment that light at the end of the tunnel was something I needed. Instead that same light later became a form of radiation. Which has done nothing but poison my mind, body and spirit.


Drivetime has been the cause of my gaining weight (15 pounds to be exact), loss of hair (at the time I was 24 years old), my already high blood pressure to spike, constant headaches and the forming of scalp Psoriasis. The amount of stress that's been placed on me over the last three years was enough to kill me (especially that year when I was unemployed). If I were to drop dead one day (and leave my wife alone with our daughter) it would have been because of dealing with the various personalities at Drivetime.

I can't say that a business that has various pending litigation's, numerous complaints on consumer websites, actual employees filing complaints with various agencies, former employees filing complaints with various agencies and numerous complaints with federal agencies is a business that I would recommend to someone. There are reported incidents of people paying off their car and Drivetime refusing to give them the car title.


Though they were fully aware of me being unemployed from June of 2007-July of 2008that same year I culminated $1,100+ in late fees. This is Drivetime's way of working with me during my unemployment. I was once told by an employee on the phone that: Every payment I make towards the car isn't going towards the car. It's actually going towards my late fees. Because of that, I am constantly paying the fees but not paying the car. Later when I called the corporate office They told me that Drivetime doesn't refinance.

I called back again the next day and someone told me that: We can just put your late fees on something similar to a forbearance. That same person told me that: Your one of the few people who still has an account with Drivetime for three years why didn't anyone tell you about this earlier? I've tried multiple times to have my car loan taken over by another company; thanks to DriveTime's Credit Reports no one would accept my application. DriveTime targets people with no credit or bad credit for a reason.


During these hard times I can only imagine others like me who are physically suffering because of the stress that Drivetime has placed on them. I can't say that I've had two pleasant experiences with Drivetime in the 1,095 days I've been dealing with them. America is a capitalist country and there's always money to be made. But how a company goes about making that money can be detrimental to those persons that have to deal with that company and work for that company.

There isn't a word in existence that I can use to describe the anguish that DriveTime has placed on me and my family. Even if an employee from DriveTime were to read this, it would only be Water under the bridge. It wouldn't change the company's business practices nor will it lead to them creating alternatives for dealing with people whom come across difficult times. I wouldn't recommend DriveTime to my worst enemy.


As you're reading this I'm still recovering from my scalp Psoriasis, my exercise routine has given me good results and trying to get my blood pressure under control. It will be difficult for me to recover from those previous illnesses because once again I'm unemployed. The day I lost my job was the most painful day of my life because I remember very clearly the Hell on Earth I had with DriveTime.

The last time I was unemployed DriveTime worked with me now in these difficult times I can only imagine what new form of working with me they have. I can only pray for strength to deal with Drivetime, because this time my wife and I are expecting our second child. She will be taking a three month maternity leave and I would have to find a way to handle the $365.30 a month poison (better known as my monthly car payment).

I just had to put this open letter on here. Many of you have written of the atrocities that DriveTime has done to you. This open letter is my personal story of what I've been through with DriveTime (and what I'm continually going through).
