AIG insurance offered quite low diminished value compensation for our car. At first they offered $297.90 and so our option was to hire a credible, licensed, expert appraiser. Came out from the appraisal report that the escalations reached $1600. Then received a counter offer of a thousand dollars from the insurance company's adjuster. We chose to respectfully decline the counter offer as we know we deserve the compensation amount that our appraiser provider us.

Yours is a common story, insurance companies fighting tooth and nail to avoid making fair settlement offers for diminished value. It's important for you to obtain a diminished value report that is not based on a formula or algorithm. Once you've sent a comprehensive report to the insurer, it is time to be persistent, keep making written inquiries, escalate the claim to supervisors, question their methodology, make complaints to the insurance department for unfair claim practices, etc. For anyone else reading this, I have prepared more than 3,000 diminished value reports and can say with confidence that you will receive the same treatment from every one of the large insurance companies.
