Just got off the phone with my credit card company and AlertPay after a $10 cash advance charge appeared (along with misc $.78 fees) that were not part of my payment confirmation page or my email confirmation. Ameriprise Credit Card company says the charges were a result of the transaction being sent as a 6012 code (cash advance) - AlertPay agrees the transaction was not a cash advance but sends that code and 'expects the credit card processing company to decide whether or not to add the charge.' After Ameriprise heard him say that she immediately offered to reverse the charges and recommended I not to business with AlertPay. They had no interest in helping fix the issue or in retaining my business. I wonder how many other people get these charges and don't find them on their statements. Stay away from AlertPay!

#1 UPDATE Employee
Cash Advance Fee
AUTHOR: Chrisz@AlertPay - (Canada)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Hello, my name is Chris and I am an Online Community Support Advisor in AlertPay.
First, we apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused. We would like to take this opportunity to explain this issue and would like to assure our members that it is not AlertPay who is charging any cash advance fees. Rest assured that we take this issue very seriously and are working to resolve it as soon as possible.
Recent changes in the rules governing MasterCard transactions have required us to temporarily process transactions under the 6012 code. Most of our clients have not had any problems with regards to the cash advance fee but a few select banking institutions have been applying this additional fee. Since this fee is coming from your bank or credit card issuer, and not from AlertPay, it is unfortunately not possible for us to reverse the charge. What we are advising our members to do is to contact their bank to resolve the issue and reverse the charge. In most cases these fees will be waived by your bank (as with your case). We would advise simply explaining that the transaction was to an online payment processor and not an actual cash advance transaction. If you have any previous transactions with AlertPay, we would suggest using these transactions as additional proof for your bank.
Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience. We would like to assure you and all of our members that we are doing everything possible to quickly rectify this situation.
Thank you.
