American Freight Furniture The Biggest Furniture Ripoff Company! Columbus Ohio

My husband and I visited American Freight and saw that some of the items they had for sale, appeared to be good buys. They even had a free layaway. I decided not to put anything on layaway, at that time. However, a couple days later, my husband went to American Freight and did put 2 items in the layaway for a 12/24/2005 delivery date. We went back to the store on 12/10/05 to look at the items and make sure we both agreed.

We spoke with the service rep Larry, who blurted out, you folks ready to pay in full for your layaway and have it delivered today,we said no, just wanted to make some changes. As he pulls up the information he begins to tell us that the sectional is out of stock and won't be available until January 31st.

Our delivery date was 12/24, and all he could say was sorry? This should have been stated on 12/2 when the layaway was open, what the possiblities of not getting the furniture, much less being charged 50% for restocking if we drop the item and then a 30-60 day wait for a refund?! And they don't tell you verbally about that restocking fee, it is listed on your recipt in very small print.

I thought Layaway policies were to be posted just like all the other department stores do? And then you have to call them 30 days before you take delivery of merchandise? Then you are to inspect your merchandise at the loading dock? All sales are final and goods are sold as is!

We will be out of $20 should we cancel the layaway and return both items to stock & the file fee. There goes our deposit! I forgot to mention, that its 50% per item. The fee takes effect after 5 days, who knew? I went on the internet to get the corporate information and there is no corporate office listed, just the distribution centers. I called the office in Masslion and was told that they don't give out the corporate number, but that the general manager handles all problems and takes care of reporting it to the corporate office. All though they do process their refunds from the corporate office.

This company is a legitimate scam artist. They hook and resale to the highest bidder. And will keep you once they have your money, because you stand to loose 50% guaranteed to restock and the filing fee. You are forced to buy what ever they have in stock to try to re-coop your funds from being taken. This company has taken layaway to a new level. Not only will you not receive the merchandise you paid for,they get 50%, before you get a refund. and if you paid in full, no refund will be given, because all sales are final! Check the fine print before you put your money down, ask for the policies and then check the internet and call the corporate office to confirm if there's a number.
