Before American Home Mortgage went out of business, they were bad enough to deal with. I had no idea I was dealing with a company whosae specialt was subprime lending. Then after they went out of business and AHMSI was formed (Just the servicing agent) it got 10 times worse. Poor customer service, incomplete transactions, late posting of payments, high electronic payment fees that were not disclosed prior to contract. And now, undisclosed POLICIES.

Last month (December), I made an online mortgage payment, but before AHMSI processed the transaction, another institution erroneously deducted 2 automatic payments from my checking account, resulting in insufficient funds when AHMSI FINALLY processed the payment.

This caused 3 things to happen 1) I had to make another payment to AHMSI online, 2) of course this ended up making the payment LATE and a $35 fee was assessed, 3) they arbitrarily revoked my ability to pay via any electronic means - now I have to send a cashier's check, money order, or wire the money via western union.

There was no indication of this policy until I tried to make the next month's payment online, and I got an error code instructing me to call customer service. There is no recourse, no manager/supervisor to speak to - they flat out say I now have to DRIVE somewhere to perform a cash transaction. and of course I have one business day to get this donw because the payment is due on Jan 1 (a holiday).

I guess this is because they are used to dealing with customers who cannot pay. I am refinancing with a reputable organization that does not have a predisposition of bias against their own customers.
