I have recently received a fraudulent charge to my checking account debit card. March 19, 2009. The company name: Betamax, location: Cologne, Germany, I think. The amount is for $20.30 US. Not a large amount, but enough to have caught my attention, look them up on the internet and contact my bank to cancel my card and stop and further debits coming throught from this "company". Thieves is more like it.
I have never heard of this company. The only VoIP service I have is Majic Jack, which, as far as I know, is not associated with Betamax whatsoever. I do a fair amount of internet purchasing using paypal, strait debit card transactions and ebay(not so much anylonger). I am confident that these guys got my debit card # somehow during one of my internet transactions. There goes "internet security" for me. This time, only $20.30. How much next time? $200.30, $2000.30. It's no longer worth the risk.

I have 2 accounts with this company, 12 Voip websites bills their clients under "Betamax" name, althought somewhat obscure, it is unlikely stealed your money, instead anyone in the world with your card data could do it, hackers that uses virus to grab information worldwide, in almost all computers without an antivirus you can found this steal-data viruses. The problem with this company is that they do not verify the data you introduce in anyway, so you can even put the name of the card wrong and it will go ahead and they have zero consumer support althought half of the worlds cheap-call-shops use this system. Someone with access to your computer with the data taken from the fields that are saved in your internet explored in your last purchase or some guy in pakistan could have done it.
