I recieved a call at the end of February 2004 from Julie on behaf of Commercial Health Network. She asked if I had health insurance and I said yes through my company. She asked if I had a digital camera or wanted to go on vacation, I told her I already had a digital camera and didnt have time for vacation. She asked if I shop online because I would get $1000 of free online shopping. She asked if I would like a credit card with a limit of $2000(finally found something of intrest). I currently didnt have any credit cards outside of the ones I closed and were paying off. So I said yeah sure because some things you just need a credit card for.

I asked what bank and she of course said we deal with several. I said I didnt have $299 to give because I had to pay a bill the beginning of the following month(March), she said I could pay the $299 and when I get the credit card in "10 Business Days" just take a cash advance from that. So I did it under that assumption. Now comes the fun part......

None of the previous convo. was recored, now all of a sudden they want to start recording so in case you try to dispute it they have you on tape agreeing, but they dont have one tape all the BS the previous person just lied to you about. So they recorded me verifying my bank information etc. The guy recording also said that the $299 was non refundable. No biggie right since I'm going to get a $2000 credit card, or so I thought.

So the money is taken outta my account on March 15th 2004 like agreed. Ten business days later nothing in the mail. I call and now it's 20 business days. I finally get it exactly a month later from the date the money was taken out of my account. I open up the "package"(they love to call it that) and wanted to explode.

Julie told me I would get recieving a free digital camera, free vacation, $1000 free for online shopping, $2000 credit card and some sort of health benefits. Instead I recieved offers for everything stated above and the health "benefits" were simply not even half off of certain things. The free digital camera offer had a $29 shipping and handling charge. The camera was one of those pencam's you see on ebay or at walmart and is only worth $20 if that.

I skimmed the vacation offer and of course it wasnt close to being free. The $1000's free for online shopping was only to their "merchandise site" that was very limited and everything had high shipping and handling so you were basically paying for it full price. Here's the kicker, the $2000 credit card "offer", simply an application not even for a real credit card, it was for a prepaid credit card. So now I'm out $299 when I was assured at least a credit card from a bank with a limit of $2000. But wait, there's more......

There is also a refund/cancellation policy page in the "package" with instructions stating that if I was satisfied I could return everything in the package within 15 days of recieving it and get a full refund in 15 "business days" minus any "transaction fees" which there werent because you have to pay for shipping it back on your own. I made copies of everything, followed the instructions perfectly and airborned it back within the next day. I tracked it, saw when it was delivered and decided to call them to make sure they got it.

I spoke to Melissa who had attitude from the moment I told her I returned it due to the refund/cancellation policy that was in the package. She said I agreed verbally that the fee was non-refundable and even played it back for me(weird hearing my own voice). I told her about the refund/cancellation policy in the package THEY sent to me and she said that it didnt matter because I verbally agreed over the phone and that it says on the refund policy that I had to call them first to get a refund form to send in with the returned package. It didnt say that at all on the refund policy because I read it 10 times to make sure I didnt forget to follow a step. All they required was a letter in writing of cancellation, everything in the packet that was recieved and that it be returned at my own expense within 15 days of recieving it. Nothing about calling them at all. I followed all those instructions but Melissa wasnt hearing it. She insisted that it said I should call the get the form.

I thought I had heard of every credit card scam out there but obviously not. How can companies get away with preying on individuals with less than perfect credit or no money and stick it to them even more. Also I wonder how they get the info on people in debt or with bad credit in order to target them? I asked Julie how she got my info and she said it was from an offer I filled out a few months ago.(yeah right) So now i'm out $299, i got nothing for free like I was promised and I had to find money from somewhere else to pay the bill I needed to pay. And they get away free as a bird. I'm going to harass the hell out of them until they give me my money back. Even if it opens up a class action suit because i'm obviously not the only one they have done this to. What ever happened to telling the truth, guess that doesnt apply when it comes to sales. This is the world we live in today. Any ideas or want to start a class action suit, please let me know(.
