I've recently had an Intoxalock Installed and have been getting false readings. The other night I had a nutrition bar (zone bar) and a retest came up shortly after and ended up with a .03 reading. This resulted into a lockout, horn blarring at work,(very embarrassing) and retest came up after I had to shut the vehicle down then blew .000 when retested. Customer service said it would cost $85 plus S/H and my contract states $75 fee plus $3 service fee.

I've found this to be very distracting while driving, blowing too soft, not in time and the horn honks. This is by far worse than using a cell phone

Same issues...

AUTHOR: Shane - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, May 08, 2013

I've had the same issues...

Upon further investigation by acquaintances of mine who are members of my local police department, there are other external factors that may cause "false" positive readings other than MOUTHWASH, or PERFUME...  two of which are: the use of windshield washer fluid to clean your windshield as you drive (main ingredient: Methanol) -- if you wash your windows and have a rolling retest within a few minutes of such event, it may show a false positive BAC reading as those vapors can still be present in the interior of the vehicle.  Also, if there are any problems with the heating or cooling systems of the vehicle, it can cause antifreeze vapors (Ethylene glycol) from the heater core/AC unit to seep into the vehicle, also causing "false" positive readings; "false", as these chemicals were never ingested by the occupant of the vehicle, rather introduced into the interior atmosphere by external sources.
These factors give me pause...  and I will certainly be cognisant of this as we complete me 24 month lease, and I will also be sharing these findings with others who have also had the same issues with these types of products.

Feel free to do share this as well!

~Shane

#1 Consumer Suggestion

To have this court ordered device installed on your vehicle...

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

you would have to be a serial DUI offender.

I don't know about your results with the Intoxalock, but have you ever considered NOT drinking and driving?

My preference for serial drunk drivers would be lengthy prison terms and denial of all driving privileges to protect innocent citizens.

Live with it, you brought it ALL on yourself.
