These legal theives will let out all the stops to rip you off for additional money over and above the monthly fee. I received a defective unit several days before Easter '12. We had a dinner planned with my daughters and grand-daughters. Because of this unit failing to "red" I was unable to drive, missing our Easter gathering. I was couldn't drive until another one came or risk being towed.
I called Consumer Safety Technology (CST), explaining the situation and after a heated argument with a "supervisor" who could barely speak Engish, I was told they would "look into it when the device was returned". I called after a few days and was told the unit was NOT defective, even though the folks at the installation center said they had a bunch of "bad ones" lately, but CST would refund my money.
I received another one and was eating a slice of pizza when it went off. I blew in it and it returned RED, meaning I had to return it immediately, PAY A FEE for the "failure" and get another one. I just happened to be by a State Police Barracks, and since a piece of pizza said I was drinking and driving, went there and called CST explaining I was at the State Police and willing to take their bleathalyzer test to prove I was not drinking and their equipment was giving false readings.
The technician from CST said "there are 2 kinds of alcohol" and taking and passing the STATE POLICE BREATHALYZER means nothing and they were charging me a fee for drinking and driving!!!!! Iwas/am stunned over this blatant attempt at ripping me off, and there is NOTHING I can do about it. Two kinds of alcohol, there are probably 100's of kinds of alcohol, such as rubbing etc, but not that you DRINK. I was at a state Police Barracks ready and willing to prove my innocence and they refused to acknowledge it, because they knew I would pass and have a hard time keeping my money. It's supposed to keep you from drinking and driving but they take it several steps further. Eating pizza and driving??? Why else would they not accept a reading from a STATE POLICE OFFICER. Once you sign, you're hooked.
I don't know how they can get away with this, but they are. I would advise ANYBODY and EVERYBODY to stay as far away from these THIEVES as you can. They will pull out all the stops to get money over and above the monthly fee and have access to your bank account. Additionally, since these devices are mostly there due to a court order, I hesitate to stop them from taking the money, fearing problems getting my License back.
They have you over the barrel, know it, and take full advantage of the fact. Find another company, there are many others. These theives were the cheapest with the "newest technology" I should have known better. I'm writing this hoping to save just 1 person frron the CST nightmare. Don't say you weren't warned.
