Country Hill Motors bad car, expensive repairs Merriam Kansas

My husband and I bought a 1998 Honda accord with a good body for $7000. We thought we were getting a deal, but little did we know that this car was going to cost us thousands of dollars in major repairs within 6 months of buying the car. The check engine light came on and the engine almost overheated.
The car needed a new cylinder head, water pump, and front seal gasket. This was at least $3000 in repairs. The repair shop at Country Hill motors said they could give us a discount on getting it fixed, but we got a second opinion and Country Hill Motors was way more expensive.
They told us the car was owned by old people who took good care of it and the car was in good working order. It just seems unusual to me that it would need so many expensive repairs before even a year of owning it.
