Directv deceitful, over 20,000 BBB complaints in past 36 months Internet

DIRECTV HAS OVER 20,000 COMPLAINTS IN THE PAST 3 YEARS - and that's people who complained! Think about how many people just pay the bill!!!! I urge anyone with any issues with Directv to file a complaint with the BBB.

1. I called to cancel service on 8-24-08 at 4:49 (call duration 5:57) after customer service person gave me information that service would be cancelled at midnight 8-24-08 and boxes would be sent for receivers to be returned. I hung up the phone.

I called direct tv back on 9-4-08 because I had read horror stories online about Directv's deceitful business practices and just wanted to make sure that my directv was cancelled. Sure enough, it wasn't cancelled. Sales rep Author id #34168 said our line was disconnected and that service was still on! Sorry, but BULLSHIT! I received the confirmation it was going to be turned off and that was the end of the conversation for me!

Anyway, I went through their hoops and cancelled again to humor them and got the confirmation from Sherri id #3500 that it would be shut off at midnight on 9-4-08. I now have a bill for $79 because they are trying to charge me from 9-1-08 to 9-4-08, even though I cancelled on Aug 24 and have had a different carrier since that date (ATT Uverse). I have phone records to back up the days I called. Please do something about this deceitful company!!!!!

2. I purchased 2 hd dvr receivers from Best Buy at a cost of $300 each - $600 total. (I thought I was saving myself money verses leasing, stupid me). I still paid a $4.99 lease fee per month for each receiver.
At no time was I under any assumption that I was leasing the receivers from Directv. Nothing on the box indicates that. Besides, who in their right mind will pay $180 a month for directv(football package and movie channels, I know me bad) then pay an additional $600 to lease equipment!!! I'll tell you who...nobody would!

Ok I'm done venting, I hope I've saved some other sucker from being pulled into the Directv scam.
