Yesterday, I received an email from someone representing themselves as an Executive Assistant for UGA-Association Field Services. Their website indicates that they are associated with MEGA Life and Health Insurance. The first red flag came with the email greeting "Dear Confidential" ...soon followed by "Mr. Wilhoit has reviewed your resume and asked me to schedule an interview."
Nothing this company has done in this instance is illegal. They have every right to use monster.com to find qualified individuals to recruit for their company. After reading previous rip-off reports, it appears that there may be some questionable practices in their approach to mining monster.com for potential employees. The recruiting email describes the practice this way: "We are an uncommon company and we subscribe to an uncommon recruiting process". Some might translate that to mean "we prey on people who are apparently desperate enough to use monster.com to find any kind of employment."
Nothing in my monster.com resume implies that I am looking for a sales position, nothing in my resume implies that I have any interest in the insurance industry whatsoever, and nothing implies that I am looking to change career paths. If indeed Mr. Wilhoit had actually "reviewed" my resume, I am confident he would have gleaned those minor details.
I add this post in hopes that others who are part of this "uncommon recruiting process" might add this practice to the list of questionable practices associated with other complaints about MEGA Life and Health Insurance.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
A Way to Stop These Ridiculous Calls
AUTHOR: Russ - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, July 26, 2006
At least once a week, I get calls from companies like these. "We have reviewed your resume," or "I noticed your qualified for..." or any other introduction from quasi-legitimate companies.
Here's what I've done, and it seems to be working.
When the recruiter says they have reviewed my resume, I make them get specific. I ask, "which past employer now qualifies me for your opportunity? Which of my Fortune 100 employers interested you (the recruiter) the most?"
The "recruiter" will usually hem and haw, which means I go on the offensive.
I will ask if they have seen my salary requirements, which are "plainly written on the bottom of page 2 of the resume you reviewed."
Trust me, the "recruiter" is reeling at this point.
Then, if it's an insurance company, and just for good measure, I ask if they noticed my "professional licenses and certifications." I mention CLU, Series 6, Series 7, and the non-existent Series 69 (see if they're paying attention).
At this point, the recruiter is so dazed that the knockout punch comes easily.
I ask him/her if their company is willing to match my salary demand, do they have 100% company paid benefits, cell allowance, car allowance, 18% commission and residuals?
I already know the answer.
Then I ask them, "if you read my resume, and saw my salary requirements, and knew your company couldn't match them, why the &$%# did you waste my d**n time?!"
Game, set, match. I have yet to hear from another of these sham operations again.
Have fun, try it. The laugh you get will be your own.
