On Dec. 26, 2008, I brought my 2000 Ford Windstar to Monro Muffler to have the brakes fixed. They informed me that the brakes were shot and that I needed all brake parts replaced, front and rear.

They did the work and everything was fine for about a week until the brakes started acting funny again. Brought the car back on Jan. 6, 2009 and they had to replace the drums (again).

The warranty for the pads and calipers is lifetime. For everything else, including rotors and labor, it is a one year warranty. In January this year (2010), the brakes startd grinding, so I brought it back. This time, the rotors, pads, calipers, shoes, drums, pretty much everything had to be replaced on the front brakes. It seems pretty seedy that the parts went bad only a couple weeks after the full warranty expired.

I asked the manager what kind of parts they used and he informed me that they use only "premium parts", whatever that means. Premium in Taiwan , maybe? He told me that we must be hard on our brakes which really pissed me off. He's trying to put Monro's poor work and parts off on me. I told him we don't drive half as much as most people do and that we are easy on our car and keep it well maintained and cleaned, to which he had no excuse for why then, the brakes should crap out after so short a period of time.

He tried to sneak in a rear brake "cleaning and adjustment" on top of everything else. I ended up paying $300 for everything, and feel that this company is very shady.

The previous year (the first time I brought the car in), they told me the cost for the job that needed done would total $1,200. When I said goodbye and walked out the door, the guy came running up to my car and told me he had "talke to his manager" and that he could do for $600. Unbelievable.

In 11 and 1/2 months, I will bring my car back to have the brakes checked so that if they are bad agian, they will have to fix them for free. It wouldn't surprise me if they tell me the brakes are fine, and then they go bad 6 weeks later, when the full warranty is no longer in effect.

Beyon that though, I will never take my car to Monro for anything, and I will advise ANYONE with car troubles to AVOID MONRO MUFFLER & BRAKE.

In Akron, Ohio, Steve's Sunoco on W. Market St. does decent work. I should have gone there to begin with.
