Back on 16 April, 2014, I took my 2007 Hyundai Tucson in for a scheduled appointment to have the timing belt &  serpentine belts replaced as well as an oil change. At the time I dropped the vehicle off @ 8:30AM , I was told it would be completed in 6 hours. In actuality, it was "completed" 12 hours after drop-off (an hour after their closing time) and when I pulled the Tucson out, the check engine light came on. I asked the "mechanic" that had worked on it why the light was on and he said he didn't know. I left, and upon inspection of the invoice realized they had changed a belt that I hadn't authorized as well as upsold me from a $17.99 oil change to a $29.99 oil change as well as overfilled my crankcase.

After a day, with the "check engine light not going off, I called the Monro corporate office in Rochester, NY and spoke to a CS rep named McKenzie regarding the situation. She referred me to the area manager (can't recall his name and that should should show what little he did) who referred me to an alternate store (Avon, OH) since I refused to return to the store in Elyria, OH.

I took my Tucson into the Avon shop on a Thursday afternoon and finally got it back on the following Monday afrternoon. The rate book calls for 6 hours labor so I suspect they did the work between other customers and blamed the malfuction on a faulty belt tensioner that the other shop intalled. I'm not a certified mechanic but I know that if a belt tensioner isn't working, you can tell before installing it.

So, let's recap. total of parts or all of 6 days several rides to the two shops and about $700 I have my car backwith no engine light on and the oil at the proper level.

The area manager never address the improper upsell of the oil change or the unauthorized belt that added about $60 to the bill. the CS rep McKenzie had promised a refund but that I'm afraid was lip service as I never recireved the refund.

Needless to say, Myself or anyone I have any influence over, will EVER do business with any Monro Muffer again and if you're smart, neither will you.
