I purchased a DVD via Amazon.com who used MOVIE MARS INC.

When I received the DVD and tried to play it, it wouldn't work. The screen said "wrong region". (what the heck does that mean?)

MOVIE MARS INC shipped a European version to the United States knowing it isn't compatible with United States DVD players and Televisions.

When contacted, MOVIE MARS INC was overly eager to have me ship it back to them. They refused to exchange for a region 1 (United States) version. And, I would also be responsible for the shipping charges both ways.

I believe MOVIE MARS INC would like to have the move back so they can sale it again to another unsuspecting person. For this reason, and it would cost me more in freight than i paid for the DVD, I won't be returning it to MOVIE MARS INC. (who should change their name to: OUT-OF-THE-WORLD-CROOKS).

I should have been informed at the point of sale that the movie i was ordering would only work in Europe.

MovieMars DVD Wrong Region Code TRICKERY via Amazon.com

AUTHOR: Cynanne - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, June 25, 2011

Ashleys rebuttal is very wrong.  Until this happens to someone, who would know or think to double-check the region code to make sure a 'gotcha' is not going on, when you are in the USA store! Why should one have to worry about that? Checking their Amazon bad reviews, there are many complaints about MovieMars selling wrong region DVDs only to find there is no refund/no exchange, no return shipping refund, "wrong regions are not considered 'defective'".   What other seller on Amazon has this in their small print when you write for refund? I have never it before and it totally stinks.

So, after we get 'caught' and send it back to them, totally out of $$, they get to sell it again to some other unsuspecting person who in turn, thinks they are getting a good deal for a DVD.  The exact same thing happened to me recently.  I searched for a movie on Amazon and the movie appeared with over 600 ratings and 5 stars.  I noticed at the 'buy from these sellers" link, MovieMars was first in line, had the same movie in stock, new, and the lowest price.  So, I thought "cool' and added to cart and bought it.

They are the only seller on Amazon that has no grace for wrong regions, because they probably have crates and crates of other region movies they are profiting on by selling via TRICKERY; getting away with it due to "you should have checked the region code" technicality.  This is just wrong. They link to the exact same Amazon's link of the movie picture and its rating stars and customer reviews; there is no warning or change in the picture of the DVD to alert one has clicked to different region when you elect MovieMars. Therefore, I feel Amazon is at fault here also. They should protect buyers by forcing the movie rating stars to show up new; so the purchaser can see the seller is selling something totally different (a different region!).

It happens often enough as I went and read every one star review for Movie Mars, region code is the most common complaint.  Amazon should be sure to alert buyers to check MovieMars due to so many complaints on this specific issue, there should be a warning that the DVD is a different country region when you are on the USA store.  MovieMars knows most people will not take the time to fight because they listed the movie for the lowest $$.

This is a public trust issue and should be addressed by Amazon. The UK has their OWN Amazon - why would a USA buyer want a UK DVD?  Total trickery and rip-off! Ashley defending themyou are probably associated with them or a fool. You think you are logical but you are not. Making money by tricking people is not ethical. MovieMars is a criminal  gotcha on a technicality - "too bad, sucker!" merchant and should be banned from Amazon and investigated by the FBI for potentially illegally obtained, other country region DVDS they are unloading in the USA for profit - to unsuspecting buyers.

Not a ripoff

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 18, 2011

This is not a ripoff, its a matter of the customer not read/understanding what they are buying. If you go to this storefront on amazon and just search for any random movie and select it, then scroll down amazon clearly states what region the movie is good for. In this customer's case, they should have verified they were buying a Region 1 (U.S. and Canada) dvd when they purchased it. Its not the seller's responsibility to make sure you buy the right thing. I purchase DVD's from japan that are coded for that region, and I had to buy a DVD player for that region to play them. For all this company knows, you have a european DVD player in order to pay it. Of course this company is going to require you to pay return shipping. They shipped you exactly what you asked for.

No rip off here. Read closer next time.
