I received my new orchard bank credit card a few weeks ago. I purchased a couple hundred dollars on it. I signed up for their online bill pay service. The site requires you to enter the account number for your bank twice to guarantee no mistakes. Somehow, magically, the last digit was dropped off in their records. This allows them to hit me with a returned payment fee of $35. This is a total ripoff scam! rip-off scam! I called them, they told me to call my bank, which i did. my bank told me there is usually a small entry that should of been used first to verify the account. Something like one cent or five cents or thirteen cents, something like that. My bank shows no record of any transactions whatsoever. Orchard blames me for entering the wrong info in my account. Which is bull! How and why would I accidently forget to type the last digit of the account number twice in a row??? I called them back and had to yell at the guy and he told me to transfer to the internet dept. which he did and they did not answer. so the same guy came back on and told me to call back. I said forget that, let me speak to your supervisor. She came on and did the same exact thing, which verified to me that this is a scam. After the run around with the internet dept led nowhere. I was yelling at her at this point. I told her to take the charge off my account or I cancell my card. She then said to me a threatening voice that she could do that right now if I wish. I said FINE DO IT!!! That is why she offered to remove the 35 dollar charge off my account and I said fine you better do it now. I have to wait for my next bill to come in the mail just to see if she did what she said. I hope that she did. I am paying off my bill and cancelling the card. Especially now that I read here on ripoffreport.com that other people had the same expirence with this company. HSBC are ripoff artists and no one should ever do business with them!!!!

Take a look at your payment receipt.

Take a look at the payment receipt you printed out after you made the payment. It shows the last 4 digits of the bank account entered. If they are correct, you can use this to show Orchard you entered it correctly. If you did not print the receipt, next time at least look at it to verify it is correct.
If you are not hooked to a printer when you make your payment, save the receipts in your computer and print them later. This really helps when you try to prove you are right and they are wrong.
Orchard Bank does not have a system to "verify" the account by placing small deposits.
You also have to remember this. While you may or may not have made an innocent error, many people make these errors purposely if they do not have the money, then try to fight it later. You asked how and why would you enter the wrong number twice? People who try to scam them would do it, pretending to make a payment ontime, but entering the wrong account number (I'm not saying you tried to scam them, but those who do ruined it for those of us who don't). Orchard Bank has probably heard them all and it would be very hard for them to determine which error was an innocent one and which one was intentional. Since you have not had your account for very long, you are lucky they are refunding the fee (hopefully).
Orchard Bank is a pretty decent "bad credit" credit card to have. One thing, though, they definitely follow their rules and give you a very hard time when you want them to make exceptions. These days, that's typical of most companies and not really a rip off.
I was once told by another credit card company "If we expect you to follow our rules, you must expect that we will follow our rules too."

Duane,
It's nice to see that you're one of the VERY few people around that have not had a problem with Orchard Bank.
I've also noticed that you repeatedly stick up for them. Do you or someone you know work for them?
I don't care what anyone says. all of us that have filed reports are not airheads and careless, irresponsible people. We are hard working people, who pay our bills, and are being ripped off!

My responcabilities??? WTF are you talking about? I payed my bill three weeks before it was due. I proofread everything in my account and triple checked every piece of info. They ask you to enter the account number twice. How am I going to leave the last digit of the account number twice in a row? Especially since I am anal about triple checking every number. Even with this problem, I still had my payment resolved two weeks prior to it due date, so don't tell me anything about responcabilites!!! Orhcard took off the 35 dollar charge only after I threatened to cancel my card. I will be double checking that as well! I have never had any problem with any other credit card company until this incident.

....that you had some kind of a problem. But let me tell you, Orchard Bank is NOT trying to scam you.
Signing up for online bill pay does not absolve you from your responsibilities - which is paying your bill on time with a valid form of payment.
After you set your online account up, you should have proofread your data.....you can do this at anytime.
I have several accounts with Orchard, all have been set-up online and I have not had a single problem.
