I was contacted by David Anthony, a "sales representative" for Pre-Paid Legal Services after seeing and responding to a questionairre online. He called me and we discussed my need for "special" legal services, a firm or attorney who specifically litigates the case I had.

David was excited about the possibility that my case was one that he could help me with and would supply a firm that would take my case. He gave me the number of the firm, who I'll keep to myself as I don't believe they are at fault here.

I called the firm and spoke with an attorney who told me they would NOT accept my case and it would be difficult if not impossible to win and they wouldn't put their firms assets at stake to litigate on my behalf. WOAH!

I called David and could only leave a message. I told him that since the firm he referred me to wasn't going to take my case, I had no need for the Pre-Paid Legal Services and wanted to cancel. He did tell me that I didn't have to pay if I was dissatisfied.

A few days later, I got billed $30.90 on my credit card. I called David again and he didn't return my call. I sent him an e-mail: (note: his original to me is on the bottom)

David,

What kind of BULLSHIT is this. I contacted the law firm you referred me to and they say they cannot help me. Since that constitutes a breach of contract, or at least a failure to provide services, I am requesting my money be returned IMMEDIATELY. I am also informing my bank NOT to process any further requests for payments and I am also NOT enrolled in the identity theft program you mentioned. I've already been a victim of such theft and don't have a need for a service like that. I litigate MY OWN identity theft and FRAUD cases, successfully, I might add.

I have not heard from you since the original call, contrary to your statements. I followed through with my responsibility and fell that it was a reasonable expectation to get the help I needed and the return call from you. Since niether have taken place, I feel I am not being served correctly or sufficiently, nor have promises been met, services rendered.

Again, I submit, please return ALL monies ASAP and discontinue any and all service agreements set in motion by this contact.

Respectfully,

Robert Peterson

He also told me that I would be a great representative for PPL and that I should consider doing that. I had no idea at the time that this was a "work at home" business that he was referring to.

At no tuime was it ever mentioned to me that I was also paying for some sort of Identity Theft Service, I was only told that I was going to get my "package" in the mail, which I never did.

I called PPL directly, who sent me a form to fill out just to stop them from taking more money from me for services I had already cancelled LEGALLY! I sent the form back and they still took more money from me. I sent the form again and they finally acknowledged it. They still took more money from me.

They tell me I must now send a request for the return of funds and THEY will decide what, if any, monies I am entitled to. If I don't get ALL my money back, I'll see them in FEDERAL COURT. And don't think it won't happen.

I now find it hard to understand why this company even exsists. Are lawyers that hard up for clients that they need this kind of business? Just to be associated with this company, whether you "sell" the services or are a beneficiary (law firm) you should be ashamed at the numerous complaints from "sales representatives" as well as people like myself.

I agree with some of what the "successful" "independent sales" person say as well as agreeing with those that feel they got ripped off. An "independent contractor" has an obligation to correctly portray the company as the company has an obligation to tutor these people and be responsible to terminate those who cannot or will not do the job right and accept the responsibility to reimburse those who feel they have been the recipient of incorrect information or cannot use the service.

PPL CANNOT just "throw their hands up" when customers complain or require numerous affidavits in order to stop charging or for reimbursement. That's just not right nor do I believe it's ethical and fringes upon illegal.

If you buy a can of peaches and when you open it up it's pears, you take it back and get a full refund, simple as that. I did not get what I paid for, as a matter of fact, I got NOTHING but an empty can. I deserve a FULL refund, no questions asked.

Sweetheart, I'm not sure if you're familiar with "opportunity cost".. by the time you file to get your $30 back or let's say it's $60.. and even if it is taken into court, you've lost out on a lot of time, emotional energy and most importantly... money! In fact, you may have to pay court costs.. which would totally wipe out the measly $<100 you are trying to get back.

Think about this- Does an insurance company refund your money because they won't cover a particular doctor visit or test that you need to have?  No, they don't. That is your responsibility to check out the areas of coverage before you sign a contract and begin paying for the insurance.  Same with Pre-Paid Legal (it's Legal Insurance).

.. And good luck with threatening to report to the Attorney General of OK.. PPL is heavily backed by Attorney Generals not just in Oklahoma but all over the country, governor of the state, and even the US Chamber of Commerce.  Rest assured.. this ridiculous complaint will not even make it into court.

Just sent them a long legal letter to get my money back. I'm sure they don't want to have yet another report filed against them with the Attorney Generals Office in Oklahoma.
