Two matters or great importance, my kids custody and a copyright infringement claim made against me were not handled appropriately in any manner.

The advice they gave me to do what my ex husband wanted becasue it was fair to him (no legal basis and they sided with him when I was the client)caused me to lose my kids to their step mother for a year until I had to had an attorney to undo what I had allowed to be done. Undoing the custody was much more work than not giving in to him to begin with.

The copyright matter, PPL's firm Welch Gold and Segle, never forwarded me a response from the claimant, so I was sued in Federal Court a year later when this could have been prevented. And guess what, now PPL says they dont cover the trial defense, even though my contract states they do.

You are better off with no advice than their advice. Im looking at losing everything because of them. All they say is "we dropped the ball".It's a rip off of great proportions. Too much on the line to put it in thier hands again.

Its time that we all be adults and take responsibility for our actions!!

First off, I would like to say that I love this site. It allows everyone to state their opinion about certain companies and get some things off their chest. Next, I want to apologize because some of the analogies I am going to use are a little ridiculous, but they are to prove a point.

I have nothing but great things to say about Pre-Paid Legal Services, having been a member for over 8 years. I can not begin to express how thankful I am to have this service even if the information that I am given is not what I expected. The law is very difficult to navigate and many of the laws are not clear, they are merely interpretations. Some cases that should be cut and dry are exactly opposite. Many of us have an opinion whether or not O.J. Simpson killed his wife or not, It should have been cut and dry. But his defense attorneys proved that their was some doubt that he killed her, not that he didn't kill, but there was some doubt. He was found not guilty.

Many of the complaints on this site are from individuals that had expectations that were not met. Either they were told by the marketing rep. that their situation would be covered or handled a certain way, or they assumed it themselves. I do understand where they are coming from, but as adults we have to be responsible for our actions and face the consequences of them. There is a famous saying, " you can't handle the truth," and unfortunately its very true.

Many people want to be bailed out of situations that they put themselves in. I had a situation in which I did some advertising for my business. Like an idiot, I took the SALESMAN's word about there being no contract and decided to move forward with the listing. Two months in, the ad was not producing so I tried to call and cancel. They informed me that I was in a year contract and could not cancel. So I contacted my law firm, faxed over the information. Upon reviewing the information they showed me in the "FINE PRINT" where I got burned. To say the least I was highly upset, not at the advertising company, at myself, because I have used my Pre-Paid membership before and they have stopped me from getting into these types of situations and me trying to handle everything on my own, end up getting screwed.

The truth is, I signed the contract and by law I signed my rights away for litigation, " FINE PRINT." The advice the law firm gave me was correct by law, but it was not what I wanted to hear. But it was the TRUTH. So I understand how many people feel the Pre-Paid Legal "doesn't do what they said they would" but I had messed up not them. Any other attorney would have charged me to review the contract, charged me for the consultations, added some more fees, then told me the same result. They might have tried to send off some letters to the toll of $100-200 per letter, then sent me a bill for the same result. So I am thankful that Pre-Paid Legal saved me thousands of dollars. Oh, I forgot to tell you, Pre-Paid negotiated with the ad agency and settled the bill saving me 80% of the yearly ad price which was $2400, and Pre-Paid NEVER SENT ME A BILL!!

There is a saying that " A dog doesn't bark at a parked car." Many large companies deal with complaints, and it is said if no one is talking about you then you must not be doing anything. From HBO to Blockbuster, Mercedes-Benz to Hyundai, Microsoft, Coca-Cola and Johnson-Johnson, they all have to deal with unhappy clients and customers. But at the end of the day these are all companies that we respect, love and trust. Pre-Paid Legal Services has been around for over 35 years now and will one day be a household name. Why not give them the respect they deserve for helping out the many satisfied customers and giving many average people the opportunity to make a change in their family legacy.

Ask yourself this one question, what have you done to help change other peoples lives? Well Pre-Paid Legal has helped over 1.5 million families, so they are doing something right. Do your Due diligence on the founder Harland Stonecipher and his 3rd consecutive term on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Read about the Attorney General Michael Moore, who won the lawsuit against the Tobacco companies, (over $240 billion), and how he is a Provider Attorney for Pre-Paid Legal. Lets focus on the positive things that this company is doing rather than nit pick and the company for not making you feel good about your own problems. Change yourself, which is the hardest thing to do, take responsibility, and make a difference.

Copy Infringement is a Felony!!! You are right, Pre-Paid Legal Does not cover it as part of the membership. They cover, JOB RELATED CRIMINAL CASES, AND CIVIL CASES. The truth is that you got yourself into the situations, now you will need to hire an attorney, for a fee, to get your answers. Their consultations are to inform you of your rights in certain legal situations. It is up to you to decide what actions you want to take. Your situations are obviously more involved than you have explained, so it is only fair that you support your complaints with the pertinent information to prove a valid point. It is like me saying that Pre-Paid Legal wouldn't defend me in my lawsuit so they suck. But I didn't state that I was driving under the influence and killed someone. I know it sounds ridiculous but so does your claim.

In no way am I stating that I am completely right, but this company has helped me and my family many times. The consultations are priceless, but at the end of the day, it is my decision what I want to do with the information that they provided me. It sounds like to me that the situation with your ex-husband was more emotional than legal. And many times that is what happens after a divorce. I sympathize with you and wish that the outcome was in your favor, but "such is life." We have to make a decision, live with it and learn. I feel that if there were LEGAL justifications for your situation, they would have given you the advice you wanted to hear. Next time get all the documentation that will help prove your case and you will get your desired outcome.
