Privacy Matters, DealPass, etc Be CAREFUL
I signed up for a trial of Privacy Matters and when I called to cancell it, thus avoiding a charge of 14.95 an engaging customer service represenative named Cheryl, told me that, for one charge of 14.95 I could get the product for a full year at no additional charge. I reviewed this with her three times. I asked for a written confirmation and, of course I got some propoganda that never outlined the price but rather, like a lot of marketing schemes today, I tried to work my way through a maze of product specific features which were primarily more ads and never found a cogent explanation of charges.... Bottom line, I find they have charged for 14.95 three times and 4.95 three times! I expected the 4.95 and a single charge of 14.95 but not the recurrent charges.
So I called the toll free number on my cc and after navigating a maze that requires you to continually press the 2 key to get a live person I got a friendly agent named Begashtun in Houston. He apologized immediately and without question processed a request for refund and told me it would not be a problem. He indicated that he sent a confirmation in plain english while we talked and then transferred me to another dept supervisor who dealt with Privacy matters. Right off the bat this guy, Anthony, full of attitude of the unfriendly type (I was courtesous the entire time in spite of feeling livid). He blurtered out three different products and said something about some refund. I asked him to repeat himself and to send me a written email confirmation in plain english and he said he would. I felt so flippin confused by the time I got off the phone that I hadn't a clue what they did except promise some refund and promise to cancel this immediately.
I never got any email confirmation.
So be very careful with this "offer," and they are obviously making it difficult to understand and thus very difficult to reconcile their charges. If you get a bunch of offers to complete some questionaire for a $25.00 Walmart Gift certificate be careful as well.
The only single credit report they offer is a TransUnion report. You can access the other CRAs through a Trimerged report, thus there is obviously some special relationship with TransUnion.
One other note, getting your trimerged report or the TransUnion report via Privacy matters is pretty useless outside of alerting you to new stuff that appears on the other CRA, however, there is a big difference between the information offered for trimerge or the single TRU report compliments of Privacy Matters and what the other two CRAs show. This is useless for any reason other than a cursory check. What a scam! Caveat Emptor!!!
