It seems that with every new week I receive a new offer for a Providian Visa Platinum Credit Card. Promising no interest until May, 2004 w/up to a $30K credit line, based on my good credit. Signed by Beth Greiner, Exec. VP. I finally bit. I was "pre-approved," my credit reports are excellent, I have an Amex Gold & a Citibank Mastercard w/ zero balances, I earn a comfortable income, and don't owe anyone a dime.

I was denied on the basis that Providian has a negative relationship w/ my "household." What household? I live alone and have never been married. I have nodependents. I had a roommate at this address for two years and I remember him having problems w/Providian... His problem... Providian's problem... NOT my problem.

I contend that Providian is breaking the law by denying me credit solely on the basis of my house number. If law enforcement used Providian's fascist formula, we could all expect to be held accountable for the infractions of former roommates. Whoa! Look out former roommates of OJ Simpson and Ken Lay! Anyone else have the same problem w/Providian? I would be interested in taking part in a class action lawsuit.

why have a credit card??? so you can be in more debt.....

I work for this sorry company and I dont have any credit cards, and yes they do rip people off thank god I'm getting laid off.
Yes they are outsourcing to Bangalore, India

use this rule if I can't buy it today in cash, I dont need it ( layaway if you are a major shopper)

keep $1000 in the savings account at all times for those boo boo's in life

contrary to beleive people do not need credit to buy a house- find a realtor that does their own underwriting.

me in San Antonio

Consider Providian's rejection a blessing

AUTHOR: Teresa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 30, 2004

Marc--You should be thanking your lucky stars that Providian DIDN'T sign you up. NOTHING good can come from having this credit card. Not only will they NOT boost your credit rating as they claim, they will take HUNDREDS of dollars from you that they have no ethical right to have. They have been side-stepping laws governing the credit industry for years and it will all blow up in their faces AGAIN. Yes, this company had a MAJOR class action lawsuit about 3 years ago for unethical practices, and they are right back at it again. Try another credit card company...whoever you get CANNOT be as nasty as these folks.

mother was refused a credit card because of "unsatisfactory relationship with a member of the household"

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 18, 2004

I have a problem with Providian and disputed my account balance. They admitted there was an error and corrected it. Although it took over a year and a letter from my attorney to get copies of missing sattements.

Now because my account was in arrears while waiting my mother was refused a credit card because of "unsatisfactory relationship with a member of the household". She is retired and pays rent for my spare bedroom (her choice, not mine), she has good credit and her own income.
