I have been making online payments for years never late never over the limit.

In August of 2004 I was unable to log on to the providian web site in the 8 days leading up to my payment date. I called Providian and ask if I could make my payment over the phone so that it would not be late.

I was told that the did not accept phone payments, that the would only accept mailed payments or online payments.

I ask if there were any other options and was told no and then was hung up on. I got back on line and tried again and again on several different computers and different times of the day.

I call providian again and told them my problem and wanted to make a payment, They we still no help and I was told no phone payments and no Western Union payments.

I ask for some help was told just mail your payment, I advised them that if i mailed the payment it would be late. I was so what at least will have your payment.

The day after may payment was due the web site was accesiable.
so I mad my payment. Then I was charged a late fee and an over the limit fee due to the late charge.

I have tried to fix the problem by sending letters, copies of web access not available and phone calls noting helps.

Now I have been charged more fees and have received phone calls every day. They start calling at 8am and call every hour untill 9pm. I refuse to pay the extra fees.

I send in my payment but they still add fees.

You can TOO make a phone payment with Providian...

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 21, 2005

You absolutely can make a phone payment with Providian. You don't even have to talk to a representative to do it. It costs $14.95 if I remember correctly ( I closed my account with them) but it saves you from paying $30 for a late fee if you only have a few days to send your payment in.

I used to work for a major bank and this sounds like an excuse I heard a million times--'your website was down' or 'something was wrong with your automated system'. Those types of things very rarely happened and when they did, we were alwyas notified so we could respond appropriately to a customer question about it. If you are going to wait so late to make a payment, you should expect there be a penalty. Those customer service reps have heard every excuse in the book, trust me. If I had a quarter for everytime I heard " I didn't get a statement" or "your phone system was down", I'd be rich. They won't believe it coming from you either. You should familiarize yourself with your cycle date and budget yourself around that so you know when to pay your bill.

I made a payment by phone on May 5, 2005

AUTHOR: Gayla - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 13, 2005

After checking my account to make sure the payment I made online had been applied to my account, and finding that it had not been applied, I contacted Providian by telephone. Their website says they accept payments by telephone. And they did.

In this case, I needed my payment applied the same day, which generates a $15.00 fee, but talked them into not charging the fee because for some reason my payment, made days earlier, was not credited to my account. A late payment would have allowed Providian to increase my interest rate on the card. From now on, I will make my payment very early, at least two weeks in advance of the due date.

I wonder why your phone payment wasn't accepted? This seems like a company to watch your back with.

Stop the harsing calls

AUTHOR: D - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 23, 2005

You can contact you the Govenor's Office of Consumer Affairs and have them assist you in stoping the calls. You should also file a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the currency. The complaint must be in written form and signed by you.

I'd keep calling and being the squeeky wheel until they remove it.

It is not this person's fault that their website was not working when she tried to make her payment "on time", and under the circumstances, this person should not have to pay a dime to make the payment by phone.

I would continually keep calling and calling and calling, especially if they have a 1-800 number until they would credit me.

Their fees are outragious and unreasonable as it is, and NO-ONE should be charged over $14 dollars to make a pnone payment.

Also, if they refuse to work with you, I would write the Comtroller of the Currency at:

Comptroller of the Currency
Customer Assistance Specialist
1301 McKinney Street, Suite 3450
Houston, TX 77010-9050.

I've written to them when I was having issues with FCNB, and they made FCNB comply.

Also, try the Fair Trade Commission, and the Attorney General.

Just don't let them get away with this. This is a money-hungry greedy company who does not care who they take advantage of.

Good luck.

No PAY-BY-PHONE ????

AUTHOR: Billie Jo - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 22, 2005

HMMM , that is really interesting ! I pay my providian account By phone EVERY month ! It may cost me 14.95 to do this... but , I look @ it this way... it saves me the 29.00 late fee plus the 29.00 over the limit rip off fee. But , I know for a fact ... They have a pay - by- phone option . When you call the the 1-800 customer service # , in the "menu" it says " to make a payment by phone press 3 . ( I think its 3 ) But I know they have it!! Mastercard as well... but they only charge 6.95 to do this service ... hmmm. Something sounds fishy ?

At any rate...I would certainly dispute it... often times , Providian has what they call a "ONE Time" reversal on late/overlimit fees... Explain your situation on how the internet was down . Good Luck...also another suggestion would be to start trying to pay your payments EARLIER ,just in case it may have to go snail mail.

A former Law Suit winner against Providian !!

( They know how to cheat at the game ang get away with it ! -- Except with me :} } good luck
