I purchased a RepairMaster 3 year warranty for a dehumidifier. A few weeks before the warranty expired I filed a claim for service. Because the claim was filed a couple of weeks before the warranty expiration I contacted Warrantech and was told by the claim processor that he was not aware of a service facility but that I would receive a response within a week or so. I voiced my concern about the upcoming expiration and was assured that because the claim was already filed there was no need to worry about the repair interval. His exact words were "Even if it takes 6 months you're covered". A week or two later I received a voice message (difficult to understand) telling me that I would have to ship the unit to the manufacturer in California and that I would be reimbursed for service. We had moved earlier in the year, I could not find the original shipping box, and other issues prevented me from acting immediately on shipping the unit. Because I had never received an email I soon forgot about the service order (you don't need a dehumidifier in the fall in Massachusetts). Now 5 months later (less than the Warrantech verbally stated 6 months) I contacted Warrantech. I was now told that I had to have the unit serviced within 90 days; otherwise the repair order is automatically deleted.

Warrantech refuses to reactivate the repair order. Even if I had shipped the unit immediately how could I guarantee that sending it cross country and obtaining repair could occur within 90 days. Also they said I would be responsible for shipping costs. The plan mentioned carry-in service in your local area. Warrantech said that they could not find a local service facility so I would therefore be responsible for the shipping expense too.

The 90 day statement is nothing more than an excuse for not meeting thier warranty obligations. Additionally, they should be responsible for shipping since they stated carry-in service but cannot provide a service facility within my state. This is a borderline fraudulent operation. The warranty is worthless; just a waste of money. If readers google reviews about Warrantech they will find numerous other customers having the same bad experiences. The only positive comment that I can make is that they answer the phone.
