At the end of last year my husband and I attempted to adopt a child.

We met with and got to know a birthmother who had chosen us to adopt her child once it was born. The child was born in Texas on Thanksgiving of 2014 and we immediately flew from California to go through the adoption proceedings.

After the hospital released us with the baby we stayed in a hotel room in Texas for two weeks to wait out the signing and filing of the adoption paperwork. During that time the birthmother and her own mother became increasingly hostile and resentful, and began making up situations and stories about us and conveying them to our attorney.

Throughout the entire process they were hostile and abusive toward our adoption agency, our attorney, and even the hospital staff.

At the end of the two weeks the birthmother changed her mind about the adoption and refused to sign the papers, so we gave the baby back to her.

We recently found out through Googling our names that she had filed a report about us on this very site. This report contains nothing but hurtful, slanderous lies about my husband and myself, and appears as the number one search result when Googling either of our names.

I kindly explained our situation to the customer support of this site and they flat our refused to remove any of this information unless we gave them money. Even as part of that process we would be required to provide documented proof that the things she posted were untrue.

Someone was able to post those horrible, defamatory things about us on this site for free and with *no proof* whatsoever, but I have to pay them in order to defend myself and somehow offer up documentaiton that these made up stories didn't happen.

I firmly believe RipoffReport.com to be a scam. They allow anyone to say whatever they want about another person, but they extort money from the scared victims in these situations.

I don't want anything revenge or retribution from anyone involved (this site or the birthmother who is trying to ruin us). All I want is this false report about me and my husband to be removed so that we can move on with our lives and not have to relive the worst experience of we've ever had.

My Opinion

I understand your frustration for a couple of reasons. I was adopted as a baby, and even though my family didn't go through a negative experience, I can understand how devastating your situation must have been.

When I first started reading reports on this site, I couldn't believe some of the outrageous things I was reading. I couldn't understand how this site could allow some of the behavior. But as I learned more about their no removal policy and their rebuttal and arbitration processes, it started making more sense to me.

Check out this page from their site, you may find info that could help you. http://www.ripoffreport.com/ConsumersSayThankYou/WantToSueRipoffReport.aspx

I'm not affiliated with them in any way. As for the money request, I really can't comment on that without knowing what context it was in. If they truly were trying to extort money from you, that goes against their own written policies.

There are many reports where info is showing as redacted after the arbitration process finds a report to be false or unsubstantiated. They also explain on the site that people shouldn't solely base their decisions on a report since the info hasn't been verified.
