I was making a move from Illinois to Florida and decided to use U-Haul to move my belongings. I did my research and chose to rent a truck instead of hiring a moving company because I would save money and didn't mind the drive. I made an on-line reservation a month in advance from my scheduled moving date. I was given a confirmation number and quote for the truck I chose. Everything was fine at this point. About a week later (still 2 weeks before the move) I decided to call U-Haul and find out if I could pick up the truck a day earlier since I now could get in my new place sooner. I gave the man over the phone my confirmation numer and asked if the date change was possible and if there would be any change in fees. He said he would change the date and everything else was the same. I even checked periodically online to confirm my confirmation number.
All went well until I called up U-Haul the day of the move to pick-up my truck. I wanted to pay cash so I called to find out if there were tax/additional fees and if so what the grand total would be. The lady told me there were no additional fees. The grand total was nearly $400 over my confirmation quote! I was outraged! She told me because I made a change to my reservation, quotes can change at any time. This to me is ridiculus, why should I have bothered then to make a reservation and why was I not told a price difference when I had called customer service to change the date? The lady asked me then if I wanted to cancel, I was moving that day, how can I cancel now! I could have hired a moving company for the same rate I was now paying. Don't use U-Haul they will rip you off! To top it off, the truck had problems during the drive to Florida and I had to pay for an oil change, nice. U-Haul also never responded to any of my concerns afterwards. Beware if using U-haul!

Maria P. is on here saying she wants to help but she is more like lipstick on a pig - and I say that in the most civil sense. UHAUL has an image problem and I am interested in understanding what lengths UHAUL is going to correct their dysfunctional business. So, please tell us if Maria did anything at all beyond putting these carbon copy "I want to help" replies which you will find all over ripoff reports.
