Union Workers Credit Services Credit Approval Notice is NOT for a credit card. Dallas, Texas

My partner received a letter in the mail from Union Workers Credit Services which told her she'd been pre-approved for a Platinum Card membership with a guaranteed $10,000 credit limit. The APR quoted is 5%.

It's worth noting that her credit score is still suffering from the profligacy of her ex-husband. As we discovered less than one week before this letter came in the mail... she cannot get a store credit card and, as far as a loan for a house is concerned, forget it. But no despair. Bearing in mind her credit score, read on...

So, we think, how can she get credit when we know all of this?
She knows that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

And this definitely is.
It's not a credit card. It's a line of credit to spend with the company, as evidenced in the letter, and these are direct quotes from it:

"....credit limit valid exclusively toward all credit purchases from credit provider!"

"Credit amount referenced herein shall not be construed to function as any type of multi-purpose credit card and is exclusively applicable for credit purchases from UWCS."

So there you have it. It's there, in the letter, in black and white.

Don't be misled into thinking it's a way out of whatever kind of financial hole you may be in.
