Wal-Mart Tire and Lube changed the oil in my 2004 Malibu. Silly me for not checking my oil when their service technicians were through. Miles later I did check my oil and discovered it was grossly over filled.
Upon returning to Wal-Mart I witness their service technicians drain my oil into oil pans and then measure it as they poured it into empty oil containers. My Malibu which takes up to 5 quarts had 7 quarts of oil in it (not counting the oil spilled on the floor and left in the oil pans).
Wal-Mart made a claim with their insurance carrier. I was told it was out of their hands and to contract their insurance carrier. After numerous unreturned calls to their insurance carrier I was eventually contacted and told they were denying my claim. At this point all I was asking for was that Wal-Mart pay to have my vehicle inspected for damage.
I contacted the store manager and was again told it was up to the insurance company and there was nothing he could do. I asked the store manager to do the right thing and take responsibility. Nothing doing.
There seems to be a lot of negative publicity concerning Wal-Mart in the news recently. An incident like this surely reinforces any such notion. Helena does not need customer disservice like this!

For why your car is having problems.
I'm not a mechanic, nor do I have a Driver's License (or ever plan on having one.)
What I do have is a husband who regulary overills the oil. And both of his cars still run fine. Time to get another excuse.

Absolutely right, oil overfill doesn't usually do any damage

I bought my Cougar with the 3.8L V-6 and the guy who had it before me did an oil change without draining the old oil! It had like 11 quarts in it and ran beautiful! Scared the hell out of me even with my prior mechanical background, but all i got was an extremely clean motor.
No damage at all, not even fouled plugs!
Oil pressure was a little on the high side, but that was it.

What dameage?

You had more oil than required. What damage do you think happened? If the oil was filled all the way up to the top of the valve cover, and still ran(not oil fouling the plugs), there would be no damage done to anything. This would take several gallons, not just one extra. When the engine is running, all but about a quart is lubricating. That last quart is in the pan. That is why the add mark is 1 quart.
This is is why your claim was denied. The insurance company knows there is no damage, and refuses to pay for what they already know. At best, if the over-abundance of oil caused your plugs to get fouled, that's all they would owe you...new plugs.
Look on the bright side. You went there for CHEAP and got it. You also got the engine real clean in the process.
