I went to DeLuca Toyota to get a Maintenance Road check of belts, tire pressure, (Multipoint Inspection) only. This was done, all inspected items were checked NORMAL, NO LEAKS OF ANY KIND.

I was crying, telling Joey I needed this road check done so I could safetly drive along to Virginia, to visit my husband dying in a nursing home.  I needed to get to Virginia quickly !! I think Joey played upon my emotions, not thinking clearly of what may happen here.

THEN, Service manager, Joey Donaldio escorted me to the garage where my car was upon a lift.  Joey Donaldio pointed out very FLUID secretions coming from my left front wheel to the right front wheel. I asked him what had they had done to make my car, if they had applied some type of SOLVENT across the underbelly of my car to make it appear to having leaks.

Joey Donaldio then stated " I will take care of it, let me put you in a loaner car, and you can keep it for 3 days"    I insisted I must get to Virginia quickly, could I take the loaner car.  His answer was NO!!  I thought he was just going to clean what they had sprayed on my car, but when I returned, Joey Donaldio presented me a bill of $4180.52.  That is twice what my car is worth!!!  I NEVER  AUTHORIZED ANY REPAIRS, I DID NOT GO IN FOR REPAIRS, AND MY CAR HAD NO LEAKS.  I have taken good care of my car, Toyota Avalon 2006.

I was forced to take a loan to pay for unauthorized repairs to retreive my car from this dealership. However, I was never given an estimate for any type of repairs, and if I did, that would have given me an opportunity to seek competitive pricing for repairs.

I am a 77- year old Senior Citizen woman , and I feel I was totally taken advantage of.  I never authorized any repairs, nor did I get an estimate, and if major work was needed, why not schedule it to my advantage! I did report this incident to Senirs vs Crime, but then I took them to court,  The Judge Thompson in Ocala told me if I took them to trial, I may have to pay for their attorney and their court costs.  I felt disuaded to think about the additional money I would have to pay, if I took it to trial.  So I dismissed the case, but the Judge said I could open the case at anytime.  I live on social security and live month to month on this small income.

How are these large corporations allowed to get away tricking Senior Citizens into these types of situations?

Please help me to get this money refunded back to me if anyway possible.

Thank You,

Phaedra Hamdan

My big question is what is your "dying" husband doing in Virginia while you are in Florida??? There are plenty of nursing homes in Florida!! As for them scamming you wrong. I have never heard of a "maintenance" check - and I have had many vehicles in my driving history.

AND if you live on SS then once again what is the reason you live in Florida while you husband is in Virginia??

Maintenance Road Check...??

AUTHOR: Jim - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, September 26, 2019

I went to DeLuca Toyota to get a Maintenance Road check of belts, tire pressure...  The minute you walk into a dealership's repair area to request this, they will always find something wrong.  This isn't some free service.  This is how repair shops make money.  If you thought there was no leaks and everything was normal, you were incorrect.  That doesn't mean something important was wrong.  It means you basically authorized them to do anything and everything to bring your car to their specifications.

I was crying, telling Joey I needed this road check done so I could safetly drive along to Virginia, to visit my husband dying in a nursing home.  If you were really crying, then you really had no business driving to Virginia on your own, nor did you have business going into a repair shop.

...presented me a bill of $4180.52.  That is twice what my car is worth!!! I have taken good care of my car, Toyota Avalon 2006.  I sort of put these statements you made together because they don't make sense to the reader.  You have a 13 year old car and assuming you have taken good care of your car, the car is actually worth closer to $5,000.  However, if I'm the service manager, I don't even bother repairing the car.  I do the absolute minimum and let you go with maybe a $1,500 bill.

However, I was never given an estimate for any type of repairs, and if I did, that would have given me an opportunity to seek competitive pricing for repairs.  Well, you sort of did.  By getting a maintenance road check, you essentially authorized them to make repairs as they see them.  That's why you don't request such a service in the first place.  Once they have your car, they will not let your car go to another repair shop.

The Judge Thompson in Ocala told me if I took them to trial, I may have to pay for their attorney and their court costs.  Well, you could have sued them in small claims, but you would have lost.  I think the judge was trying to be kind to you and letting you know that payment for legal services in such a case would not result in you winning the case.  In other words, he was telling you not to throw good money after bad.  You found an ethical person to give you some good advice.

How are these large corporations allowed to get away tricking Senior Citizens into these types of situations?  I'm sure being a Senior Citizen has nothing to do with this.  Ordinary citizens when taking their car to a place like this would be in the same boat as you.

Please help me to get this money refunded back to me if anyway possible.  No website can help you get your money back, plain and simple.  Truthfully, that money is now gone.  And you should not put your phone number on this website - who knows what crazy people might read this and then start calling you for no reason.
