1888carbucks says one thing, does another ripoff New York New York

I had original dispute with client in july/05, joe wirtz said he would buy my car, a 1999 VW beetle with 116,000 miles on it. A used car I owned for only one year, for $2500 'sight unseen', his driver picked up the car and gave me a bank check for $2405. Unmentioned $95 title search.

Put check in bank.

Later found out from my bank 'payment was stopped!' I called joe wirtz at 1888car-bucks. After not having time to initially speak with me, he said car is not worth $2500, even though kelly blue book said it was worth over $3200! Then he said I lied about the condition of the car, I DID NOT. I could not even get my car back without paying for towing, storage and an oil change!

He finally said he would give me $1900. I agreed so the headache would go away, this is why I did not sell it privately. He specifically told me other places would dicker about each ding and scratch, I 'would get $2500!' I complained to bbb and some online sites and got a letter from him stating that he would send me a check for the difference of $500 if I would remove the complaints.

This was back on sept 1st, 05. Here is a copy of the email he sent me.

Pursuant to our conversation, I have agreed to remit to you an additional $500.00, in exchange for your immediate removal of the complaints you have posted on www.brevardcomplaints.com and www.complaints.com, and any other pending complaints you may have submitted. Please confirm the removal of these complaints and I will overnight a check to you for the indicated amount. I do not wish to put you through the expense of defending the libel/defamation lawsuit my attorney's have prepared, nor do I wish to pursue you for damages, punitive, compensatory or otherwise. However, I am very committed to preserving the integrity of my business, and will pursue such at all costs, and I think you know I have the resources to do so.
I just want the complaints removed.

I removed the complaints and never received the check. I have repeatedly contacted him and gotten no response other than, the check is in the mail.
