I was phoned one afternoon by a lady named Monica Smith offering me the chance to dramatically improve my credit score and in a very short time at that. She told me she was with 1st national card service which sounded familiar, so I thought it was reputable. Turns out the name is very similar to several major credit card companies and banks, but their not one of them.
I was told I was approved for a $2,000 credit limit with a 8.9% interest rate. I was then told the card company was requiring me to make a refundable deposit to open the account. all my info, including my bank account number, and the terms and conditions of my account with first national card services were recorded. Monica spoke fast and used the word account a lot. I was then given the date in which the $149 fee would becoming out of my bank account along with an approximate arrival time of my new credit card.
One week after the money was with-drawled from my bank account I received my plastic card and papers of terms and conditions. I had been doopt into purchasing and enrollment fee, so that I may us my $2,000 credit line to purchase online catalog merchandise from 1st national card service, on their web site, 1stplatinumcard.com.
It took me two days to get through on there customer service line after long waits and hang ups. Only to speak with a lady who was, short and unsympathetic. She told me write up front I had agreed to the terms of their offer and they had it on recording. When I told her there offer was misleading and at no point during the recording did Monica Smith refer to the offer as a catalog, she played the recording for me. even with open ears listening for the word catalog, I still could not her it. I told her I heard account repeated over and over but never did I hear the word catalog. She told me where in the recording it was said. I them told her If it was said I could not hear it clearly through Monica smiths ascent. She then said, "what I say and what you say does not matter, only whats on the recording." "that is the only thing the judge will care about
in court."
I want this company exposed so bad. I wish I could say the money is not that big of a deal, it's the principle. I can't say that. I am married with 4 young boys and can barley pay the bills. I just wanted a way to improve my credit so my husband and I could get a lower rate on our auto payment and maybe even be able to afford a home loan.

How to easily avoid this very tired old scam.

Cristen,
They ARE required to disclose that it is catalog shopping. If they never did this in the recorded conversation, you have a case, and they have engaged in fraud.
Immediately contact authorities with written complaints. Your State Attorney General needs to be notified of the scam. they usually have a consumer protection division. Also go to FTC.gov and file a complaint online.
Here's how you avoid this in the future, guaranteed. Ask one simple question.
"Is this a VISA or Mastercard issued by a major bank that I can use to make purchases anywhere I choose"?
If they stumble around with double talk, hang up.
It is a simple yes or no question.
The other sign of a scam is having it offered by a telemarketer. very rarely does a legitimate bank offering a real Visa card solicit it by use of telemarketers.
This is why i NEVER accept ANY telemarketing calls. That is my 100% foolproof solution.

Iron-Oxide edition "Veza" Card.

When you get an unsolicited call for an iron oxide edition "Veeza" card, Hang up.
You can only buy their junk; like a solar powered dog polisher or other such nonsense.

It's all junk from SMC

It's all junk from SMC at about a five hundred percent mark up. They called us also but we had already heard they were a scam and told them to go to hell.
You can try sending a registerd letter telling them to give you your money back and file complaints with every government agency you can find to complain to, that's about it.
They run a borderline criminal enterprise.
