AAA Automobile Club of Southern California Unneeded products attached to battery warranty Escondido California

Ignition left on for approx 2 hrs. Radio on, fan blowing.

Battery installed by AAA in Oct 2012. 3-year warranty.

Car failed to start. Battery obviously not holding a full charge.

Called AAA to have battery checked and/or replaced.

Technician appeared at my residence in 30 min.

Technician performed load test on battery.

Load test failed.

Technician stated that the terminals on the battery adding impedence to the circuit, thus preventing the battery from fully charging, and that they would have to be replaced or the new battery would also have problems.

When queried, the technician stated that the warranty has now ended with the replacement, and that this was irrespective of battery terminals being replaced.

Charge for new battery terminals: $50

New terminals refused.

Battery replaced.

Car now starts.

After technician leaves

Ohmmeter placed between positive battery terminal and connected cable reads 0.5 ohms.

Ohmmeter placed between negative battery terminal and connected cable reads 0.5 ohms.

I conclude that this well within acceptable limits (< 2 ohms). I am not completely sure of the limits.

I conclude that the service was unwarranted and primarily intended to add to the service call bottom line.
