This is a known problem with AC Delco side terminal batteries, it is interesting to note that the AAA technician knew exactly what to look for and was not surprised to find that battery acid leaked and ate right through the positive terminal. Luckily I was only stranded for an hour, and the leak which could have been a total disaster but was not, guess I got lucky.
